I made a terrible mistake! After Norton did a full scan and discovered some
adware stuff in the Window Downloaded Program Files folder, I deleted
everything in there (including, it appears, the Norton Active X COntol files
that control login and config). Suddenly the computer wouldn't boot up
properly (displayed a Norton error message that it couldn't find config
files); the Windows login window appeared blank (the three users I had
installed were gone); Norton was gone; all my IE connection info was gone,
etc, etc. Explorer shows the Downloaded Program Files folder to be empty but
a dir comand under DOS shows 58 files in there!! All the files for the three
users are still in the Windows Profile folder, but I can't login to them;
setting up new user files just adds new user folders in Profiles.
Two questions:
1. How can I get Windows to recognise the Norton Active X Control Files
files still in the Downloaded Program Files folder?
2. If I can't get those to work, how can I set up new user logins to access
the existing user files in Profiles?
