My pc is saying something is not right with the display settings... having
to do with color. It wants to run on 256 color rather than the true color
setting used for at least 2 years, maybe 3. My machine is Intel Celeron 10
GB harddrive, l28MB Ram. Can you advise what has caused this to start
happening? When the mouse freezes and I unplug and reboot, a window comes
up that a certain device needed for display is missing and it puts me in
safe mode unless I bypass. In safe mode, the screen area changes and the
color setting is 256. I've run it this way a few weeks, but would like to
know the cause, so as to fix it back as it used to be. Thanking you so
much in advance.

Reinstall your video adapter drivers. Display
Properties>Settings>Advanced button>Adapter tab.
