Just stay away from all but these cards: 6600 GT, 6800, 6800 GS. The 6800 GT is overpriced now. Everything else isn't worth it, and the cards I listed are in order from good to best.

I have to agree with PX7800GT. But the 6800GT does not perform better than a 6800GS, they are about even. The 6800GT has 16 pipelines, but it is crippled by a 128-bit interface, the 6800GS has 12 pipelines, but has a 256-bit interface and higher clock speeds. Also, the 6800GS overclocks really well, not sure about the 6800GT.

I also recommend you get the 6800GS or the 6600GT. But the 6600GT is really starting to show its age with newer games. So, for $40 more, just get a 6800GS.

Actually the 6800GT has a 256-bit, and can overclock nearly as well as the 6800GS, so you're also getting the extra 4 pixel pipelines.

Well I got my 68000GT when they first came out; the 6800Ultra was more expensive and I wanted a card that could play Doom3 well. I still ended up paying around $430 for it though.

Yeah .. You Are Right . 6800Ultra Is No Good For it`s Money ... My Brother Bought Leadtek A400GT ( 6800GT ) When It First Reached Asia ... It Had Much Lower Price Than A400Ultra ... I`m Really Don`t Know The Point Of Buying 6800Ultra ... But I Agree That 6800GS With A Little OverClocking Can Reach The 6800GT ... But Now 6800GT is OverPriced Wich Means 6800GS is The Better Thing To Buy  ...

Yeah, makes no sense now unless it's used and cheap.

I never considered a 6800U either, but lucked out and got a BFG 6800U OC for $350 when they were going for $450+ everywhere else. The cheapest 6800GT I could find at that time was $30 more even, so the ultra was a short lived no brainer deal to jump on.

Honestly, while some people would disagree, none of the GF6's appeal to me based on current online USA prices; The 6800GS would be the most tempting, but IMO the X800XL AGP can sometimes be found cheaper and X850XT PCI-e or 7600GT PCI-e just offer more for the money. Shoot, for $180 after rebate you can get a X1800GTO even. And even the 6600GT that was once a great $100-120 card, has gone up in price a little so I prefer a cheaper/faster $80 PCI-e X800 128MB instead, or in AGP a cheaper but usually slower X1600 pro, or slightly more expensive/much faster X800GTO instead.

I am very happy with my Leadtek 6800 GS Extreme. It comes OC from the factory at 485/1100 and it idles at 44-46C and 63C is the highest I've been able to get it to my knowledge. The fan on it is so quiet that I had to shine a flashlight under the board to make sure it was running. It plays BF2 on all high settings 2x AA completely smooth. It plays FEAR with all the important stuff on max(no soft shadows, volumetric light on low) with fps in the low 50's. I had a XFX 6600LE(terrible) and I was scoring 1800's on 3DMark 05. All else the same after adding the 6800 GS my score went to 5731. For under $200 I think it's the way to go. Just check out some reviews.

Liar  ... That`s Impossible To Play F.E.A.R. On Max With A 6800GS With A Minimum Of 50 Frame ... Unless You Disabled Shadows Or Play in 640x480 ...

I play FEAR on 1024x768 with an average of 52 fps according to the settings tester. I'm at work typing from my laptop but when I get home I'll run the demo and post the rest of the numbers. I'm sure my minimum was lower than 50 fps but I made sure that on the percentages screen that it had 0% below the 25 fps catagory. When I first set up the game and let it detect I'm pretty sure it maxed out both my computer and graphics settings. I was getting lag when I entered some rooms or spun the view really quickly so I turned the volumetric settings to low and set 2xAA with no AF or softshadows. I'll verify the other settings but I know the important ones like textures, special effects, lighting, etc. are set to maximum.(regular shadows might be at medium, I played with the settings for awhile) Another thing that helped get rid of my lag that is unrelated to my gpu is that I was running 1GB stick of DDR2 533 at 4-4-4-12. I switched it out for 2x512mb DDR 400 at 2.5-3-3-7 and saw improvements in my fps that probably has to do with the leap in bandwidth I got from running dual channel.(I have a Asus P5GDC Deluxe 915P MB that is both DDr and DDr2 compatible) Like I said, I'll verify all my settings and numbers when I get home, but I wasn't looking to impress anyone.

My Average Frame in 1024x768+4xAA+SuperSampling AA+16xAF Is 63 ... But The Good Part Of Story Ends Here ... Because When I Reached The Middle Of The Game ... In Some Parts The Frame Rate Dropped So Low (Even To 20) ... That Makes Me Angry ... I Couldn`t Play Like That  ... So I Reduced The Resolution To 800x600 :( ... Ah... I Wish I Could Play F.E.A.R. Like Doom3 ( 1280x1024+4xAA = Lots Of Frame Rate  )

So I tested FEAR with the settings tester and it came up:
minimum: 33
average: 60
maximum: 139

0% below 25fps
13% between 25 and 40
87% above 40fps

all settings for both computer and graphics are "on" or maximum except:
water resolution: medium
volumetric light density: low
FSAA: 2x
shadows: medium
texture filter: trilinear

The only difference between my old readings and the new ones are that I recently gave Windows a reinstall due to changing my hardware around so much and I installed this time with the Nvidia 84.21 drivers. The game runs real smooth but I remember what your talking about with the game slowing down half way through(I think it was during the office levels) and I haven't played it that far since the reinstall(too busy with BF2) I should probably use FRAPS to get true in game readings anyhow. Anyways I still recommend the Leadtek 6800 GS, especially the Extreme version, as it comes with a real nice OC from the factory and has a great price/value ratio.
