For "My Pictures", go to this Registry key:
Hkey_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\User Shell
Folders
and change the data for "My Pictures" in the right-hand pane to point to the folder
you wish to use for your pictures.
For "My eBooks", go to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\InterTrust\DocBox
and
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\InterTrust\DocBox\Extension\.pdf
and change the "Content Folder" data to point to the folder you wish to use for your
eBooks. I have not tried this, so I can't guarantee this one will work.
Make sure the folders you point to actually exist, or create them. Then reboot and
delete the old folders after you have transferred the files from them.

Thanks Glen, that seems easier than I probably had a right to expect.
Just kidding about My Computer of course, although I avoid that display
myself.
OT: Since I've already passed the cut-off point in my NG settings for
displaying an earlier post I got no response to, I'll mention this here in
case it's of interest to anybody. The original question was regarding the
system freezing after boot-up, this after reactivating GoBack in the startup
sequence after defragging, and the situation only occurring since I replaced
Norton with AVG. In retrospect I think the specifics of the problem were
kind of a red herring. When your screen freezes you should "default" to
suspecting a video problem, which I didn't. After a fair amount of time
over-conceptualizing the problem, I finally set the graphics accelerator
down a notch and that seems to have cured it. Undoubtedly the software
interactions were part of the problem; they just weren't part of the
solution.

Let us know if it works out for you.

Glad you figured it out. I remember your other post, and thought it was about
GoBack so I moved on, not knowing much about that app.

I get as far as HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Intertrust [(Default) (value not
set) in the right hand box]. There are no subkeys, if that's what they're
called, after InterTrust, and according to the search feature there is no
word "DocBox" in the entire registry - keys, value or data. A long time ago
I moved the location of My Documents and changed the folder name based on
some trick I saw, probably in Windows 98 Annoyances. Maybe that has
something to do with it.
Hiding the folders may be a better solution, except for the annoyance of
"Save" and "Save as" initially defaulting to the "My" folders for the
respective applications or file types. I know that for at least one
application, the scanner, the default folder is user-selectable. So this
situation is not a big deal at all.

Roger,
Try creating the DocBox sub-key, and then creating the Content Folder string value,
and add the data for the value so that it points to the folder location you want.
