This is a pretty cryptic description of your problem. What exactly did
you do?

It kinda sounds like you tried to install ME over 98, as an upgrade. If
that's the case, I think you have (at least) a couple of options.

1) try to revert back to 98, IF you can get into Control Panel, etc - but
this may not bepossible, or even preferable

2) probably a better idea - reboot the system and try to reinstall ME
again.

At least that's my perspective. Some others may weigh in here with some
other ideas.

ME is a disaster in the first place. If you've done all the Windows 98
updates, then ME is going to try to revert back to an older version of
Internet Explorer. And updated Media Player also raises havoc. I ran into
a similar mess just trying to do a repair install of ME for a customer
once. Part of the "fix" for this was to boot with a Win98 startup disk
and then rename your Internet Explorer folder (INTERN~1) and the Windows
Media Player folder. And it seems like there was some DLL file you have
to delete too. I can't find the documentation on that right at the
moment. Maybe someone else that's run into it will come up with it. I
found it in the ME newsgroup, but that's been a long time ago and I'm
sure that article has expired.
Hopefully, you've backed up your data. If so, just format, install 98
again and then immediately upgrade to ME (if you insist on ME) and THEN
do your upgrades.

Yea - a clean install is always best!
