MSI X1600XT Vs eVGA 7600GT

Hi, im thinking about buying a new vidcard, since my current card is the igp that comes with my msi RS482M4-ILD (something like the ati x300) (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813130520). I use an AMD athlon 64 3200+ venice processor and 1gb kingston value ddr400 ram which I bought about 4 months ago. I'm not really a hardcore gamer (and I know my motherboard isnt oc friendly so dont start on it), and have a 100-200$ price range budget. so searching around newegg i found these cards (both using the "latest" technology:

Can someone help me choose between one of these or is there anything better for the same price range ??? By the way plz dont start on the usual NVIDIA RULEZ *UCK ATI kind of thing I want real facts and benchmarks

They are the same price. I'd got for the 7600GT, better clocks (core/mem) : p
Besides, I haven't heard many lovely things about the x1600, just that they are OK for gaming but not the better vidcard out there

The 7600GT's competition is not really the X1600XTm but the higher end X1800GTO and XL. The 7600GT trumps the two ATI cards in Quake 4 (no real surprise), and it gets trumped in Serious Sam 2 (again not a surprise). The 7600GT also gets trumped in a lesser known game called X3: Reunion. X3: Reunion is actually a good game to use as a benchmark because Anandtech.com's own test shows that it doesn't favor either nVidia or ATI.

The 7600GT absolutely kills the X1600XT.

Yeah, the 7600 GT is about on par with the X1800GTO. It usually losers by a bit in shader heavy games, but it wins its fair share as well.

basically it goes like this x1600xt<7600gt<x1800gto

x1800 is really a cheap high end card and the price of those cards also follows that order

mid range cards, or mainstream cards as a lot of ppl call it, last u around 2 years playing on med settings with a lot of the extra settings on, wich is gd cuz u can keep up with the features like shader 3, and 4 when it comes out. the x1800gto will probably last u around 3 -4 years since its more powerful. personnally mid range cards are a better deal, u spend around 200 or less, u get a pretty powerful card, and since ur gonna be changing, u keep up with the features, while getting great visual quality even though its not the best

7600gt is ur best bet since u can get overclocked versions for under 200 american

But will there be compatibility issues with my motherboard's ati chipset (ATI Radeon XPRESS 200)???? The manufacturer's page says it isn't compatible...That's my main concern about the cards
