SM3 has yet to prove all the hype it deserves in my mind. Sure, in 3dmark it looks better, but in oblivion its negligible when compared with bloom. So ya, x8xx cards are still good.

They're both very good cards and either one will make a huge difference from integrated graphics. Go with the cheapest one if you want to save for a major upgrade in the near future. (Your CPU is not the best choice for games IMO).

I have to violently disagree with you there... I personally can see a HUGE difference in HDR vs Bloom.

IN Serious Sam II, Far Cry, and Oblivion... HDR is an amazing thing. I had a chance to play with a 7600 GT, and it can handle HDR really well on a decent system. It'd be a decision maker for me if deciding between the 7600 GT and X850 XT.

I also disagree. As Cleeve said there is a HUGE (f*cking) difference between the Bloom effect and HDR in Oblivion.

Get the 7600GT unless you can afford the X1800XT.

Have fun with GRAW.

well i ended up at a computer store about a month ago and bougt a MSI nx6600 for a 135.00. I should have waitted for shipping on a card online huh? I just wanted to play civ4 with someone so i went out and bought both. i got robbed by not buying online right?

WTF !?!

You went from looking at buying a GF7600GT to buying a GF6600 non-gt as an impulse buy!?!

WORST MOVE EVER.... well since the people actually buying an FX5200 as an 'upgrade' from a GF4ti.

Seriously the GF6600 is a weak card and for that price in June/July you coulda got soooo many better cards!

OIE! I sure hope you didn't buy it to play with any SM3.0 features because it's not gonna do it for actually gaming, but the demos will sure look good as slideshows.

Why did you get a GF6600 after so many people pointed to the GF7600 and 850? Those are basically 3+ times the card/performance that the GF6600 is.

Well, it all depends on what, exactly, you want out of your video card; you really can't go wrong with either the Radoen X850XT or GeForce 7600GT.

Yes, HDR does make a difference, but in the case of the GeForce, it means sacrificing AA... And don't listen to those that say "a high resolution negates the need for AA." No matter WHAT resolution you go to, the fact remains that you won't pass a relative resolution of ~92 dpi. So you have to weigh that against the HDR.

Of course, there's also the "alternative" SM 2.0 version of HDR for Oblivion, and in a few other games that use HDR use SM 2.0 HDR; it not only works on Radoen X cards, but can be used on GeForce cards with AA at the same time. And yes, in Oblivion's case, it pretty much looks the same, and has the added benefit of being highly tweakable.
