my friend is using outlook, i suggested a switch to outlook express.
we realised that he would need to save/copy all of the current
email address files and all the .dbx files ready for using o/express.
problem is, he uses xp and we did a search and it seems there are
no such things as .dbx's (that we could see anyway).
has xp changed its mannerism regarding this type of file?
i know where they all are in 98, including the .wab file.

appreciate any insight.

dbx files are Outlook Express files. AFAIK, Outlook doesn't use them.
(The same may be true for wab files). Outlook Express is a different
application than Outlook.

Import

from other programs will help, you can import your outlook folders into
outlook express and vice versa

windows uses the same .wab files as address boooks unless he creates a new
identity in OE

thank you bill.
if .dbx are o/express files, (which i already know they are) what
are the extension names of the equivalent in Outlook? where
are they kept?
if copied to a floppy, then o/express 6 was installed, would it be
possible to place the files from the floppy into the new app'?
i know that outlook is a different app to o/express, but your answer
hasnt really helped.

i have xp too, and even on my computer i cannot find any .dbx files,
where are they or what are they called?
in 98 it comes under the heading of 'app data, identities, hierogliphics,
microsoft, outlook express'.. cant seem to find
anything similar in xp.

If you do not know the filetype of Outlook email or
address book files, you can usually export them to
a new filename of a type you specify (e.g. TXT or CSV)
and then import that FN into Outlook Express.

I believe you will have to export your messages out of Outlook Express, and
then import them into Outlook. As I recall, Outlook Express has an option
to export messages to Outlook in a file format it can accept (for
importing).
