Friends,

My Mom has win98. I bought her a digital camera for her 80th birthday
this week, but the software for the camera and the Lexar card reader
require win98se to operate.

(1) What are the steps for me to upgrade her operating system swiftly
and efficiently?

(2) Does it need to go to win98fe before going to win98se?

(3) Is there a patch or download that's available for free?

I'm only here a few more hours before returning to the west coast so
would love before I go to get her situated where she can use her camera
and see her pictures.

Many thanks!

Windows 98 FE is the original version. Windows 98SE is the only other version. To
upgrade to 98SE, she needs an upgrade CD. You can also upgrade with a Full Install
CD, but they generally cost more, so look for an upgrade CD. They are no longer
produced but you may find one on eBay or elsewhere online that still has some New
Old Stock.

There is no free download to upgrade.

Is her hardware compatible with Windows XP?

You do not need to upgrade the OS if you can locate an
older card reader that works with USB version 1 (and Mom's
PC probably has a couple of USB sockets if new wiith Win98.)

The chore of taking the memory unit out of the camera and
putting it into the reader is much less than the chore of
installing and setting up modern multipurpose software
designed to interconnect digital cameras and PCs.
