How good a deal is this?

Is it a 'wow go buy it' deal, or just 'ok', etc.?

I noticed this site's graphic card FAQ seems to suggest going with the ATI X1800 XT over this card:

"It's generally considered slightly more powerful than the 7800 GTX and 7900 GT. It's technology is also a bit better, allowing for OpenEXR HDR and Antialiasing at the same time, unlike the Geforce cards.
For the videophile the X1800 offers much better DVD/video playback, 1080P HD capability, and much faster video encoding than the Geforce competition. "

That is a good deal. The X1800XT is a great card, it and the 7900GT exchange blows when compared with one another. In some shader heavy games like Oblivion the X1800XT dominates, whereas in other games the 7900GT wins. Both are excellent cards for the money.

One other note - it looks like the card comes in three speeds, with similar packaging - I hate when they do things like that making it 'tricky' to shop.

This is the middle speed 500MHz; there's a 550 version too.

Not sure how the bad or good deal question is affected by its being the 500MHz card.

That's a great price considering the cards have been over $300 and out of stock. The X1800XT is better for Oblivion, but they are fairly evenly matched besides that. I say go for it becasue it's Circuit city... try it out for 30 days and if you aren't happy with it return it for full money back. If there is a rebate, just don't cut the UPC until you know you are keeping it. :tongue:
