7900GT (generic?) vs 7600 GT XXX Version.

It's like almost 200 bucks more for the 7900 gt xxx over the 7600 gt xxx version (after 7600 gt rebate)
Understanding that the pixel pipes of the two are just no comparision.

It's hard finding good benchmarks for this really...

So I am wondering, will a 7600 gt on a opteron 146 (or 3500 venice) system running 1 gig of ram - be ok until the prices come down on the 7900gt's or, something better comes out...OR should I get a generic 7900 gt xfx

OR WAIT until the 7900 GT XXX comes in stock (it's out everywhere for the price of 359 atm)

The 359 is also about 2/3 of what I had for a budget on this system originally ...SO , that said...I'm not going to be hardcore gaming like I used to (I have a family now) But I'd like the most bang for the buck and would like to enjoy the current titles.

Right now I'm on a 1.5ghz system so obviously everything is an upgrade lol.

THanks

Newegg has then in stock for $299 (which is full retail by the way,if you pay more your getting burned).

They all OC about the same so don't pay extra just for a name.

If you're willing to overclock and unlock pixel pipes, look at the X1800GTO. Otherwise, save some $ and get the 7600GT if you're not doing intense gaming.

Are you helpful?

As for the 7600 vs. 7900, no question; get the 7900GT or even better, the X1800 XT.

Between the 7900 and the 7600 get the 7900GT.

PS: Why exacty do people say get the 1800XL when its not one of his choices?

You could go the eVGA trade-up route.

Buy this 7600GT.

You have 90 days to decide/save on whether or not you want to trade up and pay the difference for this 7900GT.

You apparently get a free copy of Age of Empires III if you act soon, which you could turn around and sell on eBay if you don't want it.

HEHE Yea I would have to agree with you on that! Definetely a good post..

Not to mention, all the rest :)

I , am, a bit strapped for cash so that may be an option. AFter all, there are SO many people buying new 'stock' systems - with much less cards intended for gaming.

Dunno - I guess with the 7600gt I can still play most of the games out there right??? maybe??? haha..oh god...i'm gonna end up sinking the cash on the better card I bet ...grrrr...
Hmmm maybe ebay is an option down the road after a year with the 7600gt.

XFX,EVGA and BMF are not what I would call generic....still the cheapest one should OC to about the same as the most pricey.

They all seem to be useing the same cheap air coolers also....yet this gpu/pcb seems to run cool enough and uses less power than the 7800's did.

At $299 they are being sold at full MSLP. Shops that sold them a month or so ago for $350+ wer just out to make a fast profit with those people who "just had to have it today!".

By end of summer I would think we should see some lower prices than the full retail $299

I would buy 100 this week if I could pick them up for $150 per unit and try to unload them asap @ $200.

processor, memory, mb etc etc all matter toward fps also.

Do you guys think the 3200+ or the Opteron144 will suffice for a year till I can upgrade the chip if I go with the 7900gt?

I really wanted the xfx xxx version - seems like a very hot item.
I can't imagine that there isn't a difference between the 299 version and the 360 version.

I still may shoot for the 7600gt. Not sure still :(
I mean, how old is the card? It cant be that old correct? Also, is there a step between the 7600gt and the 7900gt? and is it worth it?
