I'm about half way done building my computer, money is a little tight right now so I had to budget it a little bit, here it goes:

Asus A7N8X
AMD Athlon64 3700
2GB DDR 3200
250GB Western Digital Drive w/16mb of cache
Lite-On 16x DVD+R...... w/ Lightscribe
Cooler Master Case Centurion something...

I got a very good price on everything like ($98 for the 2GB of Ram and $195 bucks for the processor)

I need help picking the keyboard and mouse, 19" monitor,Video Card, Speakers and Power Supply.

Also I would like to know your opinion on my build.
Mainly Im looking for a cost/performance instead of just quality which gets very pricey.

As far as the Video card goes, because Im going to play some games in it Im not sure If I want to spend $200, $300 or $400.
What gives me the best cost/performance out of that range???

thanks

I thought you settled on the Enermax 460 PSU?

A rely from that other thread.

Can any1 give me a suggestion under $70? and also one under $50/40, thanks

Under $70 I would recommend the following:

FSP Group (Fortron Source) AX450-PN - $58 shipped

COOLER MASTER Real Power RS-450-ACLX - $67 Shipped

Under $50?

XClio 450BL 450W Power Supply - $51 Shipped

Okay, so it's $1 over 50 bucks, but you never said if that was with or without shipping. I actually never heard of this company but after scanning through a hardware review of it, it seems to be a good PSU for such a low price.

The Enermax 460w PSU turned out to cost a little bit more than expected, so I'm still open for that. Anyway I can decided on that easily, I want to know about the rest.

ViewSonic VX924 19"

$300 + Free Shipping - $40 rebate = $260

Acer ET.L5209.005 Black 19" 8ms Widescreen LCD

So you're a real tight wad, huh?
$220 + $10 shipping - $60 mail-in rebate = $170

This is a widescreen not the regular 4:3 LCD screen like the one above.

BenQ FP91G+ Black 19" 8ms LCD

$215 shipped

Tyris T901DB Black 19" 8ms

$226 Shipped

WARNING: Tyris is a no name brand

Rosewill R913J Black-Gray 19" 8ms

$230 + $12 Shipping - $40 mail-in rebate

Many people have speculated the "Rosewill" products are Newegg's house brandname. They simply contract with a supplier have the name Rosewill slapped on it and sell it.

If I had to choose any of these I would get the BenQ FP91G+ Black 19" 8ms LCD. BenQ is not a premier brand name, but they are known to have put out good products. For $215 and no mail-in rebate headaches to deal with I would get this.

Splendid
Asus A7N8X
AMD Athlon64 3700

Am I missing something?? This must be a typo. Your board and CPU selections will not work.

Yep, the Asus A7N8X is for the Athlon XP, you are buying an Athlon 64 socket 939 CPU (don't confuse that with socket 754).

The A7N8X is a Socket A ( 462 ) motherboard designed for K7 CPUs not K8 CPUs.

You need a Socket 939 motherboard like these:

My fault as for the motherboard I have an Asus A8N5X if this sounds better.
I like the monitor idea, I can live with a Rosewill monitor, any ideas for keyboard/mouse/speaker ??

thanks

If you scroll up to message #4 this is what I posted:

How about this keyboard, mouse & speaker combo?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16823201024

$19.99 + $6.99 - $10 mail-in rebate = $16.98 can't get any cheaper than that.

Don't expect the speakers to sound very good though. But if you're short on money you can simply buy this combo and save $10 bucks a month for about 3 or 4 months to get something better.

Here's an "upgraded" keyboard/mouse/speaker combo:

Rosewill Black Wired Keyboard combo

$25 + $7 shipping - $10 shipping = $22

The speakers are probably better, but it's hard to tell.

Now you only need to decide just how much money you want to dump on a GPU.

Around $200 Range - Very good mainstream card like the 7600GT or the X1800GTO (a "low" high-end?)

Around $300 Range - High-end range good enough for a 7900GT or X1800XTX

Around $400 Range - The higher high-end good enough for X1800XTX 512MB, or 7800GTX 512MB (the cheaper 7900GT can definitely compete against this) - Skip this range, nothing impressive here. Either drop down to the $300 range or pony up to the $500 range.

$500+ - Dude, if you can afford this don't skimp on low quality parts for the rest of your PC. PREMIUM GPUs - X1900XTX and 7900GTX

Hey Jaguar thanks for the help. I have to explain myself better, Yes Im a little short on money, but everytime I try to get a keyboard/mouse that isn't logitech/microsoft I end up with a problem either the battery doesnt last or it loses connectiong all the time, so Im pretty much looking for a good keyb/mouse wireless for like $50, and speakers for like $40.
I guess this isn't a very very tight budget for that but comparing to every1 else's computer on this board its a pretty basic system.

thanks
