question about RMA

my evga 7800gt is faulty and needs replacing. I put an arctic cooling nvsilencer5 fan on it. Do i need to uninstall the new fan and replace it with the older one before RMAing it? will they not accept the RMA if the arctic cooling is on it?

Yes, you need to replace the stock cooler in order to RMA it back to the manufacturer. Let me guess, you throw away the stock cooler didn't you?

Usually they will only accept back in stock configuration.
