two cards are most assuredly better than one when run in an SLI configuration

LIEK ZOMFG, D1D U GUYS WATCH TAHT NEW MOVIE, T3H D4RTH V4D3R GUY IS LUEK'5 D4D OMFGGGGG!!!!

...then again sometimes SLI does perform worse. But sorry, I couldn't resist.

Only "cheap" sli system worth even bothering with would be 754 Epox SLI board, 3000 athlon 2.0ghz, dual evga actively cooled overclocked 7600gs's.

!! I have editd this post because I was a total D@#K to shabodah for no good reason !!

I feel there is no such thing as a viable budget SLi option

The 7900GT is going for ~ $300
The 7600GT is going for ~ $200
two 7600GT's is cost ~ $400

you may get the speed of 1 7900GT if you're extremely lucky, but it will cost you $100 more, and a jump in your MWh

For your own sake, READ. 7600GS- factory overclock by EVGA. $100 each after rebate. Two with S&H = $225. The overclock to 550mhz allows these cards to be in the same performance range as stock clocked 7600gt's. Also, I said the only one worth even mentioning was this combination. I did not say it was necessarily a good idea. Last I checked, the SLI performance of this combo varies greatly from game to game, but in some games it WILL outperform (1) 7900GT at stock. In other games it will still be 65% or better compaired to the 7900 GT. So yeah, it's not the greatest combination, but if you HAVE to have SLI, just to say you have SLI, and you don't want to burn money on the latest, fastests cards, this is the only combo worth bothering with because every other possible combo will cost more than the one card that out performs it. Don't get me started.
