Is there a way of permanently disabling Task Scheduler with Win 98 SE
which will leave the rest of it working unchanged? With my Presario
7477 it always returns on next boot up if I disable it in its Advanced
window.
With thanks for your interest and trouble.

Huh? Bear just said...
http://support.microsoft.com/defau [...] -us;224420 Description of the Windows Critical Update Notification Utility
......Quote............
You can remove Windows Critical Update Notification by using Add/Remove
Programs: 1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control
Panel.
2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
3. Click Microsoft Windows Critical Update Notification.
4. Click Add/Remove.
......EOQ..............
Unless you remove that Utility, you cannot remove Task Scheduler from
the Startup Group. But, after you have done so, then use Task
Scheduler's Advanced menu to remove it from startup.
And after that you may still run it by clicking it in the START button
menu, where it is in the System Tools sub-menu as "Scheduled Tasks".

I see the whole thread there, PA, including your May 4 response. I guess
he may not have clicked a plus sign or something, (but I didn't have
to).
