When I attempt to shutdown my PC running Windows 98 SE, it restarts instead
of shutting down. Have not added any new hardware or software, it just
started. Have checked for viruses, spyware and adware. All that has been
found has been removed. Anybody have a fix?

Click Start>Run, type MSCONFIG and click OK.
On the General tab, click the Advanced button.
Click to put a check mark in the box for "Disable fast shutdown", and click OK.
Click OK to close Msconfig, and restart the computer.

If that does not help, or if the box was already checked, or wasn't there, go here:
Windows Shutdown Troubleshooter:
http://aumha.org/win4/a/shutdown.htm

Do you have Quicken installed on this computer?

Try the instructions I posted, putting a check-mark in "Disable fast shutdown", in
msconfig, click OK, and reboot.

If that does not fix it, and you have Quicken installed, the problem may be
Qagent.exe, the Quicken Download Manager.

To disable the download manager in Quicken 2001:
- Click Edit | Options | Internet Options.
- Under "Background Downloading", select "Don't use background downloading".
- Click OK.

Please post back with your results.

I have disabled the "Fast Shutdown" as well as the download manager in
Quickbooks. Now it just hangs at shutdown.
