Nice is it gonna be even with the 7900gt in performance?
April 27, 2006 11:22:42 PM

I read somewhere at school it will win in 3D Mark 05 and 06 on a test system. At this cost ATi is taking back the midrange market with better preformace than the 7900 at 50 bucks left.

Edit: y friend just called saying that two of them together will run cross fire. Imagine, 500 USD for a high-preformace X-fire system.

I know, if it lives up the hype then Nvida's midrange market is gone. the X1800 GTO's price will drop and become a better buy then the 7600GT (Nvida should have put in a 256 bit memory interface...

Just picked one up at a local Best Buy in TN. I think ATI missed the boat on the release of this product to the market. BTW paid 399.00

You paid 400 bucks for one card! Man you got screwed.
April 29, 2006 9:56:14 PM

Your mistaken, it hasn't been released yet and its list price is 249 USD, not even Best Buy rips you off that much.

How much do they charge over newegg's price 50 right?

You probably bought an X1800GTO. If you did buy the X1800GTO, just know that you could have gotten it off of newegg.com for half that price.

Wow I can't believe you guys don't think I can read the box is right in front of me. I thought it wa kinda high also maybe should have been around 350.00. But my 3D Mark Score blows the X1800XT away.

I doubt that score blows a 1800XT score out the water. My 7900GT Stock paired with a 2.6GHZ Athlon 3400+ gets 8641(@ 2.49GHZ), and that was before I overclocked the processor to 2.6ghz. That score is actually kind of low. And at $400 you wasted alot of money. First off you could have added only $30 and got a 1900XT at newegg. Even worse, there was a promotion at newegg for $50 off on ATO cards over $300. So you would have got the 1900XT for $380. lol, Well I guess thats life. Patience is a virtue.

Unfortunately Newegg has a warehouse in TN and I would have to pay 9.25% sales tax plus the hassle of shipping the card back if I don't like it. So for you "jrwriter" grow up there are many factors that goes into making a purchase local than "price". So far I have been pretty impressed with the card.

If you bought it at BestBuy, you still have to pay sales tax, correct? Plus the X1900XT would be a better card; well worth paying return shipping if you have to RMA it. Of course, maybe you shop at Bestbuy so you can demo it for 30 days and return it for a full refund. Not that I'm promoting this, but if Newegg will save you $100 on the card in the next couple weeks, returning yours is not a bad idea. I also am in a lucky Newegg operations state (NJ) so I get 6% tax from them, just like the local shops and retail chains. Often Zipzoom is cheaper for me because no tax, but in GPU's Newegg by far has the best selection and often the best price.

By the way, your Orb link still doesn't work. Got a fresh one? What are the clock speeds on your card? I'm really surprised if at stock speeds it beats a X1800XT by much if any.
April 30, 2006 5:55:31 PM

You mean to tell me you didnt break 8k with that card?
Your kidding, something's wrong there....my 7800GT was almost 7.7

@ Pauldh

EDIT: I see you got your X1800XT....how's it treating you???
April 30, 2006 6:32:46 PM

With SLI disabled I scored 7868.

Well, yes I understand the tax. But Best Buy do not only charges tax, but they add quite a bit to their cards to profit under. As for your logic about shipping the card back, I simply don't understand it. Why in the world would you not like a 1900XT. I mean common, there are numerous reviews on this card and plenty of feedback, ive never heard of anyone saying they were going to return a 1900XT simply because they "didn't like it". In case you do have issues the case is covered by newegg and they pay for 1-2 day shipping back in most cases. Well, if your happy with that $400 card then good for you. I actually got a 1900XT for the $380 last week after selling my 7900GT and selling some stuff on ebay.

For the guys that are complaining about the score on 3dMark you both seem to be overclocking your CPU and graphics cards and you both have processors that are better than the one I have so I would hope that your 3dMark score would be higher.

Newegg will pay up to 25$ in return shipping. (I've done it before)
May 1, 2006 2:18:36 AM

Thanks for feedback on my purchase and I will keep everything you guys said in mind. I am sure the X1900XT or XTX cards are awesome. I am just blown away at the graphics quality of the X1900 GT card my old X800XL graphics seems ancient in comparison.
May 1, 2006 2:26:30 AM

This is very true, however my comparison number came from my 7800GT and 3200+....what are the rest of your system specs? As its likely your machine may present a bottleneck.

I'll tell you once I get a chance to use it. I was amazed how big and heavy the thing was. I did a clean OS install and have not had a chance to run any benchies nor really game on it yet. But that will change this week and I'll let ya know.
