If the Core Duo we see forsale now are 478's and Intel currently lacks a PCI/e 478 board will they develope one? Other than forcing everyone over to 775 why haven't they made one to date?

Both the Core Duo and the existing Pentium Ms actually use Socket 479 and as such as not directly compatible with the older Socket 478 Pentium 4 boards. Also, Core Duo uses a different Socket 479 configuration and so is not compatible with previous Pentium M motherboards. The types of motherboards that support Core Duo include the 945GT desktop boards and the 975X board that AOpen made. All of them support PCIe.

The 975X is designed for overclocking and is reviewed here:

Average users or those looking for low-powered applications with built-in graphics should look at the 945 boards and the ASUS N4L-VM DH is reviewed here:

that's a link from anandtech's review of the AOpen i975Xa-YDG which has the socket 479 and is built to run the core duo. Overclock these suckers and you got yourself something that runs better than AMD's FX-60. It was a trip reading the review because I just bought an Opteron 165 and OC'd it to 2700. Now I'm wondering if I should have waited... ;p
