In connection settings, related to "my work network", if I check the box
that says "this network connects to internet" but I don't set up a proxy
server, the box resets itself to unchecked status and I cannot access
web sites (explorer says that I have to set up a proxy) when I'm
connected to my work network. This is silly, since I have internet
connection but no proxies, and THIS should be the right set-up.

I hoped that in Win2003SE this issue would have been solved, but I have
fount that is not (or that I have not understood how to use this setting
to say "this network connects to internet, but no proxies" ).

Can someone please explain where am I wrong?

It seems that this was done by definition, and is not considered a bug.
Their idea is that if you want to connect to the Internet you use the option
"My ISP".

If you are not using VPNs of any kind, you can change the upper "My ISP"
definition to "My Work Network" as well, and then the "this network connects
to internet" box will be constantly checked. Just note that you will need to
define your dialups in "My Work Network", and that if at some point you
require a VPN, you will need to change it back.

Well, this seems to me as a bad idea. It should be so simple to use a
gateway instead of a proxy...

Maybe some reg tweak? There should be a way to do it...
