I'm having intermittant problem (but always happen after I logon for a while)
with my mouse becoming very slow, and unresponsive.

I have read and done the Security and Clean Boot articles. But the problem
is still there!! At startup, before any program is started, this is the list
of processes that I have running: Explorer, ccapp, mswheel, systray, rnaapp.

In Safe mode, before I start any program, the task list has "Explorer", is
this normal??

Please help!

sounds like your mouse might not be getting enough cheese or RAM power lol.
do a "right click" on my computer when this problem starts to occur and
scroll down to properties and then "left click" on "performance" hopefully
this is showing at least 50%. Most recently did you add on something new to
your computer, that could have slowed it down as well. Hopefully you have at
least 128mg of RAM. Also do you have alot of icons showing down by your
clock, if so right click on anything that you do not need (close) and that
should improve your RAM as well. If you are on the "Net" while this is
happening, temporary internet files can build quickly and really slow down
your system as well. "Right click" on your hard drive icon, then click
"properties" then click on "disk clean uP" you should keep this cleaned
often, even sometime do this while you are on the net and it will get rid of
your junk you nave recently accumulated. Just some helpful tips, hopefully
some will help.

In Safe Mode, only minimal drivers are loaded, so it is normal to see only Explorer
in the Task list. While you are in Safe Mode, does the mouse exhibit the behaviour
you describe?

Also, does the problem only occur after you have been logged on for a long time, and
does it clear up if you re-boot?

The time it take before the mouse becomes unresponsive is variable - I have
not been able to work out a pattern yet. Between 5 mins to 4 hours.
Sometimes the mouse works properly again after a while, but most times not.

The problem happens when I'm on the internet, as well as when I'm not.
Today, I tried just running one program (Networdz - a free scrabble program
that I downloaded from the net last year), and the mouse becomes unresponsive
after 10 mins.

Tried this program in Safe mode as well, and it took longer, just over 1 hour.

Rebooting does clear up the problem.

The first thing I suggest you do is go to this web page:
http://www.aumha.org/a/quickfix.htm
and follow the procedures, in order, to reduce the possibility that this is
malware-related. You would be amazed at how many problems can be eliminated by
removing spyware and adware from your system.

Post back when you have been through those procedures (obviously some are for WinXP
and you will skip them) and let us know what changes there are and what
spyware/adware was found, if any.
