You may have muddled something. USB is one hardware
protocol for connecting the component to your PC. IDE is
a different hardware protocol. What makes you think your
external drive is both USB and IDE ?

Go to ebay and search for "USB to IDE". You will find hundreds
available with a power supply, cable, & CD with drivers. I have
purchased several all for less than $20 US.
Don't want to spend $20? Provide a real email address to receive a
free driver.

Hi there. I am having the same problem as the other guy (I have a VAIO
laptop with XP SP2 and just bought an internal DVD-RW drive and have
connected it with a USB-IDE externally. Strangely enough the first
time I plugged it in it worked fine, though now I get a "USB device
not recognised" error. I have a real email address...could you send me
a driver?
I bought it in Hong Kong and the cable is a no-name that came with a
driver but since it worked the first time I've since thrown out the
CD.
Thanks!
