You may have muddled something. USB is one hardware
protocol for connecting the component to your PC. IDE is
a different hardware protocol. What makes you think your
external drive is both USB and IDE ?

See if the generic driver TPPINST_5_04.EXE from
http://www.snt.com.tw/download.php
will work

But the latest external USB drivers use sometimes the other drivers,
like the drivers from http://intextechnologies.com/India/downloads.htm
and http://www.agestar.com/english/products/iub2p6.asp

Im not muddling anything!

Because that is what it is, its a IDE drive with a USB interface hence the
USB to IDE driver request from me.

Windows xp has built in USB to IDE drivers.

Go to ebay and search for "USB to IDE". You will find hundreds
available with a power supply, cable, & CD with drivers. I have
purchased several all for less than $20 US.

Don't want to spend $20? Provide a real email address to receive a
free driver.

Hi there. I am having the same problem as the other guy (I have a VAIO
laptop with XP SP2 and just bought an internal DVD-RW drive and have
connected it with a USB-IDE externally. Strangely enough the first
time I plugged it in it worked fine, though now I get a "USB device
not recognised" error. I have a real email address...could you send me
a driver?
I bought it in Hong Kong and the cable is a no-name that came with a
driver but since it worked the first time I've since thrown out the
CD.
Thanks!
