Well, I finally got all the parts together, and I was wondering if I should invest in a new PSU as well. Here's what I have:

Thermaltake Armor series case
MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum
AMD FX-53
Radeon X1900 XTX
(3) SATA HD
(2) IDE HD
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS with front bay
1GB Kingston HyperX RAM
DVD-ROM
DVD +RW/-RW

My current PSU is a TAGAN TG-480. If I needed to upgrade, I was looking at the Thermaltake W0101RU 550W PSU. I wouldn't have the $$ for a couple of weeks, so I'd have to run it with the old one for a little bit tho. Thanks in advance for your replies. Please also let me know if you think my current PSU is adequate.

For all those components i would recommend anywhere from a 550 watt power supply and up because the graphics card uses a lot of juice, but not like the cpu. The components you chose require a lot of juice for excellent performance. Here is a power supply i would recommend:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applica [...] TC-BIZRATE
($94) 600 watt. Excellent power supply.

http://www.ecost.com/ecost/shop/de [...] OSTBIZRATE
($109) 550 watt. Also a good power supply.

Also go for the AMD FX-55 processor. Extra cool. Here is a site:
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Prod [...] te=bizrate
($811)

But here's the FX-53 you wanted:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applica [...] TC-BIZRATE
($630)

Or for the same price go for the X2 4800+ processor
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Prod [...] te=bizrate
($630) I would recommend it.

oh you already bought all those components! For how much.

Most of the parts are coming from my old PC. I'm just changing the mobo, vid card, and case. I got the case from zipzoomfly.com for $175 incl. shipping. It was the aluminum one. I got the mobo from newegg for $114 incl. shipping. I got the vid card off ebay for $409, incl. shipping. Yeah, I know, you're not supposed to buy stuff off ebay, but I'm selling my stuff there too, and I know it works because I'm using it now. Oh, and I got a Maxtor Ultra 16 300GB sata retail off there for $80 incl. shipping. I'm selling a ATI Radeon X800 XT Platinum Edition (AGP), as well as an ASUS A8V Deluxe w/ a WiFi card there. If anyone's interested, my ebay id is: MOBO0098 (that's two zero's after mobo). (Sorry, I couldn't resist the shameless self-promotion).

You could argue that 480 watts should be enough but I'd err on the safe side. With 5 HDs, 2 opticals, a sound card and a current-hungry video card, I'm guessing that your Tagan is living on borrowed time if it even is able to hack it now. What is the 12 volt current limit to your PS? If I remember right, Radeon recommends something like 28 or 30 amps of 12V for the X1900XT. With all of your components, I'd go with something like the FSP 700 watt PS or maybe the Xclio 750. Those both have four +12V rails and you could parcel out the load across those rails. Pricey, yes, but you've already got some bucks in your rig and backing them up with a solid PS is a good strategy.

I'm not sure about the 12V current limit, or how to find it out, but this is what it said on newegg under the ouput section. My PSU is older then that one though.

Output: +3.3V@28A, +5V@48A, +12V1@20A, +12V2@20A, -5V@0.8A, -12V@1A, +5VSB@2.5A

Also, where can I find the Xclio 750? Newegg only has the 650. In addition, I was looking at the FSP 700, and wanted to know, how can you tell what rail you're connecting things to?

I got a 750 Xclio from Newegg, then noticed it's no longer listed there. (That's a bit scary in itself). Not sure about how to tell which rail is which on the FSP. You could call Newegg tech support or look on FSPs web site and see if they have avenues for getting such questions answered. For example, I've also got an Enermax Liberty, which has two 12V rails. I wanted to know what connectors were on each rail, so I emailed their tech support and got an answer the next day.

To find the 12V current capability of your current PS, try the mfgr's web site and see if the specs are listed.

Under max output current for the 2 combined 12V rails it says 30A. So I guess it could handle it, but it's right at the borderline.

Tough call. If you can afford to upgrade, I'd go for it.

that PSU would be fine.... I am running

Opty 165 2.4-2.65Stable 2.75 doesn't pass prime(no bsod though)
2 74gb raptors 0
2 250gb seagates 0
1 250gb Mators
2 7800gtx's SLI 490core1300Mem
X-FI
2 optical drives DVD-RWDL
2 120MM case fans
SI-120 HS (120MM fan)
20.1 Dell LCD..... skeptical when I bought it but it is a great monitor

With all of that, my maximum power draw from the outlet so far has been 330 watts..... it is 180 Idle and 280 during gameplay.... your system should not even go over 300W under a heavy load. And if that PSU is a true 480W@75% efficiency you should have about 360W to play with. Your system will probably be around 250 under load..... I would stick with that PSU unless you suspect it is old and on it's last leg. If you do upgrade.... don't go over board like some people post kw psu's.... a 500w psu would be more than enough.

Welll look at my computer: 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

Thermaltake Shark Full Tower Case (Black), I replaced the back fan with an Antec 120mm smartcool fan (cool case)

AMD Athlon X2 4800+ processor with some thermal grease and Thermaltake heat sink with fan keeps the cpu at 21-28 C in idle and 31-35 C running 3D applications

1 Gb Corsair TwinX XMS (ram) (nice headspreaders)

Maxtor 200 Gb 8mb cache ATA 7200 RPM (hard drive)( i got ripped off on it)

Abit KN8 SLI motherboard (awesome mobo)

HIS X850XT with IceQ 2 cooling solution ( fan and heat sink, keeps the gpu at 30 C in idle (internet and basic applications), and 40 C running 3D applications

Hyundai L90D+ 19" 8ms gaming LCD

600 watt power supply (forgot the brand but it gives me enough juice to power everything for now)

Lite-On DL DVD-/+RW burner (superfast)

I got all this for $2000.

Why would you need 3 SATA hd's and two IDE hd's. Why not just go for an ATA. ATA's are a lot more faster.

You have no idea what you're talking about.

Hit the nail on the head! That Tagan 480W should be more than enough to power this guys rig. The power draw difference between an X800XT and an X1900XT is not very significant and that is the only change in his rig that would have had a significant impact in pwer draw.
