Need help deciding on upgrade

Guys I am in the process of upgrading my rig and would appreciate some help in deciding my final config.

MOBO - DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D Socket 939. I don’t want or need SLI and depending on CPU I thought this will be a good choice for the Opty.

CPU- AMD Opteron 165 Denmark 1000MHz HT 2 x 1MB L2 Cache or
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Manchester 2000MHz HT 2 x 512KB L2 Cache

Memory- OCZ Gold GX 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR 400 (PC 3200) * Model #: OCZ4002048ELGEGXT-K or
OCZ Gold Edition 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR 500 (PC 4000) * Model #: OCZ5002048ELGE-K

If my choice on the CPU is going to be the Opty I will start venturing into some OC. The reason for the DDR500 in my list is based on this assumption. Please help me out if I am in the wrong here.

HDD- Western Digital Raptor 150GB 10,000 RPM 16MB Cache Serial ATA150 or
Two of these in raid Western Digital Caviar 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

If I decide on the raptor I will add a storage driver later down the road.

Thanks for any help.

What are your priorities for the PC? Gaming only? Multitasking? Video? Do you need the OC speed and/or the Raptor or RAID speed?

A bit of everthing: Gaming ,Auto Cad, Photoshop, Internet, Office ext. This is my home and work PC.

This is not a necessary upgrade it is just that I have someone willing to take my old CPU, MOBO, Ram and HDD’s off my hands at a reasonable price.

So this is a opportunistic upgrade and I would like to make the most of it.

Dual core for sure. I don't have much Opty experience, but I'm convinced they are the ticket right now. I'd go for plenty of HD capacity. The Raptor decision is tough - for less money, you can get loads of speed and capacity (example: two 250GB (or smaller) drives in RAID0 will set you back less than 200 bucks). I've had that mobo and the 500MHz OCZ gold and although I'm not yet fully optimized, setup was easier than expected so far. Good luck!

What would the performance difference be between the Raptor and 2 * 250 Gig SATA HDD setup in Raid0?

I seem to remember Mad Mod Mike posting the numbers recently. I think the RAID0 SATA pair was ~20$ faster than the Raptor for large throughput operations. Where is MMM when you need him?
