I am planning to buy a PC with Opteron 165 on a DFI Lanparty DR-SLI expert or Asus A8N-SLI Premium or Abit KN8-SLI.

I would like a PC shop to assemble and test the new PC, so I want to get all components from the same dealer.

I do not understand RAM so I hope some one can help me out here :)

This is what the store has to offer:

Nice price:
Corsair TWINX2048-3200C2 (2 x 1GB) 2-3-3-6 400MHz
Corsair TWINX2048-4000PT (2 x 1GB) 3-4-4-8 500MHz

Kingston 2048MB HyperX, CL2, (2x 1024MB) 2-3-2-6-1 400MHz
Kingston 2GB HyperX, CL2.5 (2x1024MB) 400MHz

Bit more expencive:
G.Skill 2GB Dual Kit DDR400 PC-3200 (2 x 1GB) 2-3-2-5 400MHz
G.Skill 2GB Dual Kit DDR500 PC-4000 (2 x 1GB) 3-4-4-8 500MHz
Mushkin HP3200 Dual 2-3-2 DDR 2GB (2 x 1GB) 2-3-2 400MHz
Mushkin XP4000 Dual DDR 2GB (2 x 1GB) 3-4-3-8 500MHz

Expencive :(
Corsair TWINX2048-4400PRO (2 x 1GB) 3-4-4-8 550MHz
Mushkin REDLINE XP4000 Dual DDR (2 x 1GB) 3-3-2-8 500MHz

I can also buy this, but have to order from a different country, and then I would have to build the PC my self :(
OCZ PC3200 EL Platinum XTC Dual channel 2048MB kit - OCZP4002GK DDR400, CL 2,0-2-3-5 @ 2,7-3,0V
OCZ PC3200 EL Platinum Dual channel 2048MB kit - OCZ4001024ELDCPE-K DDR400, CL 2,0-2-3-5 @ 2,6-2,75V
OCZ PC4000 EB Platinum Dual channel 2048MB kit - OCZ5002048EBPE-K DDR500, CL 3,0-3-2-8 @ 2,8-2,9V
OCZ PC4000 EL Platinum XTC Dual channel 2048MB kit - OCZP5002GXTC-K DDR500, CL 3,0-3-3-8 @ 2,7-3,0V

I know this is a rather long list, but please tell me if some of the memory is very good or somthing I shold absoloutly not get.

How can I make sure that selected memory OC well on selected motherboard ?

If you are going to OC get the DFI Lanparty board.

ASUS and Abit are great but they do not OC as well as DFI.

I would recommend this dual channel kit:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6820145454

or one of these:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] &maxPrice=

I recommend Corsair XMS, OCZ Gold or Crucial Balistix in that order for OC'ing.

I am not able to buy from newegg, because I live in EU / Finland.

It is hard to find dealrs that sell any thing else than value ram over here.

One dealer has the memory I listed, but the numbers say nothing to me :(

But they have corsair and corsair seems to be cheap so I go with that then :)

Thx

Corsair is great memory. The best in my opinion.
Even the value ram is great. If your a big time overclocker go with the more expensive corsair. If not, go with the regular.
Either of the top two you listed will work. Although I have no experience using 500mhz ddr, I assume its slightl faster even though the timings are slower. Would you notice a difference? Absolutely not.

I have the Mushkin XP PC4000, it works great @ 262MHz 3-4-3-7 1T.

(Assuming ones you've listed are your only option)
Unless you can afford 'Mushkin REDLINE XP4000 Dual DDR (2 x 1GB) 3-3-2-8 500MHz', go with 'Kingston 2048MB HyperX, CL2, (2x 1024MB) 2-3-2-6-1 400MHz' or 'Corsair TWINX2048-3200C2 (2 x 1GB) 2-3-3-6 400MHz'(whichever one is cheaper).

ALL the others listed below are essentially the same stuff(except the Mushkin Redline).

Why would he want to pay $206 for 1GB of RAM when he could get 2GB with the same timings for less or the same price?

Thank You all for input.

I am now also considering a completly different setup.

Instead of going dual core and try to over clock, I am thinking of going with a amd64 3000+ :)

Can save alot on mobo and memory if I dont think about OC.
