Just purchased a Geforce 6600GT 128 mb card..

I'm a big racing gamer fan, and have had this Geforce 3 TI200 forever, it done a good job for how old it was.

But I just purchased online a 6600GT 128 mb card, I don't know much about these cards, is that going to be a pretty big jump in framerates? I just need something that will run them fairly smooth. I run a AMD 2.0ghz 512mb of ram.

Let me know if you guys have done the same jump from cards, and how well the performance was. Thanks alot.

What racing games do you play?

GF3ti200 to 6600GT is a huge jump. Some games like NFSU2 or NFSMW you will somewhat cpu bound with your XP2000+, so you'll need to stick to medium detail levels despite the new video card. But, the 6600GT would have room for higher resolution and maybe even eye candy like FSAA and AF, so yeah it will still offer a much prettier/smoother gaming experience.

Thanks. I play mainly Live For Speed, NASCAR Racing 2003, Grand Prix Legends, F1 Challenge 99-02. A few others here and there when I have time. Thats about all I really play anymore, might do some flying in flight simulator 2004, I love the simulation games.

I have an Athlon 2100+. For video I have a Nvidia 6800. I added an extra 512 of ram for a total of 1gig of ram. It made a huge difference. Best part about it is that after rebates (which I just received) it was only $20.00 +tax for the ram at C.C., a well known consumer electronics store. Best $20 bucks I ever spent.

I like live for speed and Nascar 2003 also. Lately been into the arcade racers more because of friends getting to frustraded in the sims. Have you tried GTR or the GTR2002 mod for F12002? How about the old Sports Car GT. I loved that game; too bad it doesn't run under win xp service pack 2.

Yeah I tried the demo of GTR, it didn't run very fast on my computer, so didn't buy that one. There is also GT Legends, i might try that when i get the new video card.
