Hi: Hadn't looked in my "Windows" folder for some time.

Today I did, and there are 17 folders called $NTUninstallKB......$$, and two
folders called $MSI31Uninstall_KB........$ , and one called $HF-MIG$

What are they, do they serve any purpose, and can I safely remive them?
If I did not trust my firewall and AVG system, I'd suspect they would be some
sort of virus or malware.

Thanks for any suggestions!

OK Alan - I'm a dummy (well, not totally, but in this case).
I have dual boot on my machine - Windows 98 and Windows XP.
Looked at the incorrect Hard Drive; these files are in fact in XP.

I should move the question to the appropriate newsgroup, unless you can just
tell me if it is safe to remove them from the Windows folder in Windows XP.

Thanks!

As Alan stated, it's best to ask in an XP group, but AFAIK those folders are created
by Windows updates (and also Service Packs, IIRC), and contain backups of files and
settings that are to be changed by the update, and the uninstall info, in case you
need to remove one of them.

If you are sure that you will not need to remove a particular update, you can delete
the folder associated with that update....they are named according to the KB number
of the update. Removing the folder will not remove the update's entry in Add\Remove
Programs, however....that must be removed separately.

You better try an XP group.
I am not familiar enough with XP to be certain of this one.
