More Information

Hi. My computer will sometimes crash. I use linux, and when it crashes, everything but the mouse freeze up. I have to restart the computer. When I restart, I get a bios beep code that tells me either the memory or the video card is bad. If I use an eraser to clean off the copper pieces on the RAM stick, it would fix it. Now I have to keep trying around 5 times for it to work. I have tried Memtest86 (the one that came with Ubuntu, and one I downloaded from their site). I ran it for 24 hours. I have no idea what the problem is. I have two 512MB sticks, one is Corsair ValueSelect, and the other is in my computer so I cant check, but it is a big name brand. I have found that there is no noticable difference in linux with 512MB vs 1GB ram, and it is more likely to fail with 2 sticks than 1. Any ideas? Thanks
