So i install Windows XP and the system installs fine. I load all the drivers and everything is running smoothly. I start downloading the regular stuff for my computer "Firefox, DiVX player, Ventrilo, Trillian, 3DMark06...etc" and ALL of those get corrupted. I figured it was the download to i redownload them one by one and start testing them. Again, they all are corrupted upon download.

Something has to be wrong so i redo an XP install and load all the drivers that came with the board. Again, same corrupted errors.

I figured, the only thing new that i was doing from before that has to do anything with the downloads was the Nvidia firewall that came with the board. So i uninstall it and use the same files i downloaded before. Again, they are corrupted. So i re-download them and now they installed fine.

So firefox, DiVX, Vent and Trillian are running fine. I install 3DMark03 and it installs and runs fine. Then i installed 3DMark06 and the whole installation went fine. I double click the 3DM06 and it starts loading, then it freezes and my computer gets a blue-screen and reboots itself.

I try again after the reboot and 3DM06 starts loading and then hangs again, this time i CTRL+ALT+DEL it and kill the process before it crashes me again. I tried again, and again it hanged and i kill it the same way as before.

At this point i'm completely frustrated. I have a 7900GT and i downloaded the new drivers from the NVidia website so it shouldn't be the card drivers and i have 2 new sticks of OZC memory (2x1gig), everything is brand new.

Can anyone help me or advice on this? Is this common? Has it happened to anyone else? I'm really dissapointed in the LanParty Ultra and i haven't even started to OC it.

I had issues with the hardware firewall as well. Go into BIOS and turn it off to completely take it out of the equation. Hope that helps.

Thanks, i will try that. Was it corrupting your downloads too though?

It was not corrupting downloads but it would make some of my applications run really slow. For example: CounterStrike: Source. CS:S would have problems when searching for servers because the hardware firewall for some reason would slow the entire thing down to a crawl and even take up 100% processor.

At first I thought it would be a good thing, but it's not! BOO to Nvidia's hardware firewall!

In your opinion, do you think something like that has the capability of corrupting downloads/files or could it be something else?

I purchased the Asus MB with the nvidia firewall drivers also. Same exact thing. Turning them off in the software DID NOT solve the problem. You need to uninstall the drivers. Alot of problems with this firewall.

Do a google on "nvidia firewall corrupt" and you'll see a full screen of people with the same problem.

You should see what nVidia's firewall does to WoW... It's scary stuff.

NVFirewall = Crap.

If your firewall can't tell the difference between Trolls, Orcs and Elves then all is lost

lol

I have that exact board and use the NVFirewall and it works. The problem lies within the NV driver. You have to revert to an older version of the firewall and network adapter driver and then it will work like a charm. Its a pain in the ass but it works. Check out dfi-street.com if you have issues with DFI boards, those people are extremely helpful.

I think I had to kick back 2-3 driver versions before I got one that worked correctly, but it can be done.

What version are you using? I would really much like having the firewall active, unless of course it's impossible for system stability.

Honestly I dont know. I fried my mobo due to extreme overclocking so I am on a back up computer. *I think* it was a 6.53 ish, but it definately wasn't 6.7X. I wish I could tell ya, but l;ooking at the nvdia driver archive i would suggest starting with 6.66 and then 6.53 if that doesnt work. BUt to do all this you have to TOTALY uninstall all nvidia drivers, sytem and LAN. Graphics drivers are ok.

Discolsure: I am writing this off the top of my head, its been 3 months since I did it, but it can work. Search DFi-street.com for a more thorough explination ( i cant spell lol)

Thanks addict. I'm going to re-re-re-reformat and re-re-re-reinstall XP. :( I just downloaded the new ForceWare drivers and 7900GT drivers, i'm not gonna bother with the Firewall, It's more headaches than anything as i've read all over the internet.

I do wonder if it got fixed in 6.70 though. Worked in 6.53, broke in 6.66 and then new is 6.70. I guess i can try it right after format.

I wouldn't know, I've avoided updating my drivers because I don't want to go through all the hell that 6.69 brought again, so until I have reason I am not moving chipset drivers.

yes it does cause headaches but sometimes beating the challnege is worth it

Reply to SuperFly03

6.70 solved nothing. I just didn't install the firewall. :(

Went into bios, saw no thing to disable the Nvidia Firewall

Same, i just didn't install the firewall but i would also like to learn how to turn it off from the BIOS.

Reply to miroresh

Have to go to Add/Remove programs. Uninstall the firewall. You may have to uninstall the MB drivers then reinstall them again but don't Install the firewall

This is how i solved my problem with the firewall. Just turning it off in the software does not work. I don't know about the bios...
