I have a Dell X3, along with a 256 MB storage card. My main memory was
getting low, so I tried to move files to the storage card. I didn't really
know what I was doing, so I tried cutting and pasting files from the
"program files" and the "windows" folders into the "storage card" folder on
the file explorer. Now, many of my shortcuts don't work and I don't know
where the programs are supposed to go. Is there any way to find out where
the default locations of the programs are? Then I need to learn how to
transfer programs and data correctly to the storage card. Thanks!

You may need to perform a hard reset and reinstall the programs to correct
the problem ... UNLESS you have a good recent backup that you could restore
and then delete the mess you have on the storage card.

Yep ... you should have read the postings on this subject in this newsgroup
before you buggered things up.
Don't do anything on the PPC that you wouldn't do on your desktop with
regards to file transfer!
You CANNOT just move things around. During the software installation
process program files are put where they logically "belong". You can
install applications on your storage card but not just move things around at
will. You can move data files i.e. PDF's, Word files, Excel files, etc
around using cut and paste with no problem.

Ann's Rite Jon,
Ok... if you are not sure which folder goes where.... go
to the folder in the SD card and browse the folders which you copied from the
Main memory... if you see a folder with a name of a software like "Windows
Media Player" , "Microsoft Voice command" cut it and paste it to the Program
Files ... Other folders which you might moved .... might go to the \windows
folder . It would help if you can list the names of the folders you copied so
we might know which goes where and tell you...
If you do want to clear up memory space on the device... I suggest you
uninstall all the software u installed using the Device's Remove program
option ... Then Sync your device with Activesync on the desktop...
Now go to Tools - Add remove programs ... There uncheck the option "Install
applications to the default install folder"... after unchecking, check all
the software you removed from the device earlier and click OK ...
Now When prompted with a small box ... change the "Main Memory" to Storage
Card or SD Card ... as per listing... this installs the software to the SD
card... most of them should work from the SD....
Then you can transfer your excel, word, mp3, notes etc to the storage to
free up space....
