I've been shopping around for a heatsink/fan. My old one isn't cutting it, and I don't even think my processor is supported! I think it was made in the 50's, lol, jk, but it is OLD. It MUST be compatible for Socket 478, yeah, even older, but I don't have the money for a new motherboard. I'd like one that will support my P4 2.8GHz. I plan to do very slight overclocking, but the most will be to break 3.0GHz, no more. (That'll higher my self-esteem for a couple of years.) It can be as loud as a horde of elephants on a stampede, it just should get the job done. The only thing that I've had difficulties is getting one in my price range. It shouldn't cost more than $30, which means that on NewEgg it'll cost about $30-$35, but on other sites considerably cheaper, maybe $25. I am perfectly willing to buy on eBay or some sites not as well known as NewEgg. Thanks!

It looks great, but it doesn't mention anything about Socket 478. Is there some type of converter I could use? Otherwise, it is perfect!

Ahh.. I knew somebody would ask that. I really have no idea as the processor isn't the computer and I'm waiting on a PSU to ship...Sorry, so assume the worst. XP90 it is then! Is there a big difference between XP-90 and XP-90C except the color and price difference? Is the latter like copper? How much better is that? Thanks!

Not bad, it will boil down to personal preference. Your choice seems to be made out of copper which would suggest slightly lower temps. Meh, your call

Yes the silver one is made of Aluminum ( i assume) and the Copper color one is in fact made of copper (imagine that lol). Copper = better heat dissipation/transfer than Aluminum. So if you can afford it, always go copper :)

True, true...I might save a few more dollars! I'd like the best temperature. Do you think that a 200MHz will be very difficult? Thankfully, McDonalds is open this late!

(for the slow people im kidding) I see alot of the after market coolers work with MOST sockets all the way back to the P3...

Even if it's a Northwood, 200 mhz is a joke. Also, if absolute cooling is what you want, a Thermaltake Big Typhoon and the Scythe Ninja are also worth considering.

Yeah 200MHz on that core won't add more than 2C or so to your temps in all reality, You will end up with ~860 FSB and no vcore raise so don't sweat it. You could take er up to 3400 or so before heat really started spewing, but once you hit 3200 you might want to watch it.

I've been thinking about going all the way up to 3200MHz, but probably not. Just 3000MHz. I was reading some stuff on the XP-90C and it is supposedly over the weight allowed on socket 478 boards??? True, or just BS? I've also looked at the Ninja, which looks good as well. Than I've heard of the Thermalright SI-120...They all look great..Any final words?

OK, after reading numerous reviews of XP-90C, I'm going with it! So, the Vantec Tornado is a good 92mm fan?

~Ibrahim~
If your idea of "good" is 119cfm, then yes lol.
If it is quiet, then look ELSEWHERE.
But I love it. 'tis the sound of horsepower :D

Lol, noise is no matter. I'll just turn up the speakers! Can't be worse than the last heatsink/fan. It might have been old, but damn, I think I lost more than 50% of my hearing to that thing!

The tornade puts out 55db of sound. I used one for a few days and I about went insane. I live in an apartment complex and as i would near my apartment I could hear the tornado from behind the door. Its freakishly loud, but if you get a fan controller with it then your golden. I was dumb enough to just plug it into a molex connector and let it run at full throttle.

=o
I ran it full speed for a week. I didn't mind. Only reason I got a fan controller was because my parents kept bitching and it was literally 5C higher due to that lmao
