okay guys. If you had to choose between the 2 agp cards which would it be? now these are both agp cards. Im really thinking about the 6800 gs because it has pixel shader 3.0. Just want to make sure its quicker then the x800 gto, or at least on the same strength when it comes to FPS .

The 6800 GS in AGP is a bit crippled, it's not nearly as fast as the PCI express version.

AT stock speeds the X800 GTO is probably faster. The AGP 6800 GS likely doesn't have the horsepower to use nifty features like HDR, so it's SM 3.0 specification is a bit irrelevant.

However, if you're a modder the AGP version of the 6800GS has a chance of unlocking pipelines, and if it does so successfully you'd have a nice 16-pipeline card like a 6800 GT, which is much more powerful. But it's not guaranteed to work with every card.

I would suggest the 6800GS. I don't know if you have experience with

ATI and NVidia, but i find the ATI drivers are a pain, and the control centre

bites. Overclocking is soo easy on NVidia with coolbits. I have the eVGA

6800GS unlocked and clocked at 436/1160 with stock cooling. ~14200 in

3DMark '03.

Just one more opinion to chew on. :D

Ati's are just as easy to overclock, in fact you don't even need coolbits. And franlly the Nvidia advanced driver panel is just as irritating as the CCC because it takes a couple seconds to pop up when clicked.

I have both brands of cards, they both have their annoyances, but it's certainly nothing to base a purchase on. It's performance that counts.

I have the AGP Sapphire X800GTO and I am pretty happy with it. I have mine unlocked to 16 pipes (equivelant to an X800XL) and from what I have seen the success rate for unlocking look pretty high. I can run CS:S at 1600x1200 with everything on high but no AA and no AF. I get just under 100fps in the CS:S video stress test and I get around 5500 on 3DMark 05. I have played BF2 with it too but I don't remember exactly what settings I use on that game.

Get the gs, i have it and have no problems with it all. I get about 40-80 fps in battlefield 2 with all settings on high except for textures are med and aa is not on, 1024x768. As far as unlocking the pipes go, it doesnt always work, but from what ive read it doesnt have many problems unlocking. mine unlocked fine. I have the EVGA 6800gs co agp. im not biased just cause i own one, i did a ton of research and the gs is the best budget card.

if you have any other questions just post and ill be sure to answer them.

9700pro, to a 6800gs was just something I cannot describe. X800 I’m sure would give the same if not better display. So it’s entirely up to you. If you are asking about these 2 cards, I’m sure, no matter what direction you go, it’s going to be much better then what you have now! So Price!! That will be your calling!

GS might have the ability to unlock the pipes as well.

You lie lie lie lie lie.

I whish you would stop telling me that I am wrong with no explanation. If you don't believe me look at Toms AGP VGA list: http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/07/05/vga_charts_vii/page4.html

The X800XL gets 4993 in 3DMark05 with an Athlon64 4000+ for a CPU.
I get about 5500 with my unlocked X800GTO overclocked to 444core/528mem and a Pentium 4 at 3.5GHz and dual channel DDR400.

My unlocked GTO has the R430 which is exactly the same chip as the X800XL. After being unlocked, it has 16 pixel pipes just like the X800XL. Say say what you want but an unlocked R430 core X800GTO is essentially an X800XL. You have denied me several time on several different threads but with no proof.

Nvidiot, don't mind them! Just keep up the good O/C'n, and don't pay attention the negativity!
