also, how do u guys feel about buying a refurbished vid card from newegg? good idea? bad idea?

i mean i kno refurb Mobo is a bad idea and refurb CPU is a bad idea but Gfx cards seem like a good deal, i mean what could have possibly happened?

1. Newegg is great

2. A $230 X1800 XL is an awesome buy. Overclocked the core is pretty much guaranteed to reach X1800 XT speeds. I'd heartily recommend it.

yah, but a refubed X1800XT is only 154, :

ok and ill prolly buy a new cooler for the X1800XL

so XL i sbetter than a 7600GT?i kno X1800GTO's are compareable to 7600GT

My 7600GT CO SC beats my X1800XL hands down!

Reply to Crashman

the way i see it...don`t consider the price yet.....7600gt is new entry and has it`s price........in few months will drop......x1800xl has been arround for a while....

x1800xl is better ....
7600gt is a bad ideea (the memory bandwith is terrible because of it`s 128 bit )..unless is oc-ed .... don`t look at the price ...

Even with 4x AntiAliasing enabled?...

I've got an OC'd 7600 GT that keeps up to my stock X1800XL without AA, but once AA is turned on the X1800 runs away.

From what I've seen in some recent benches, it's a similar story with the 7600 GT vs the X1800 GTO.

That I can believe, but a 7600GT super clock beating a X1800XL hands sounds crazy. (Crash, what settings and what games are we talking?)

I'd just expect the X1800XL to provide the better playable settings in most (but not all) games. Sometimes by a little, but often by a good margin like farcry where according to digit-life, X1800XL > 7900GT with AA/AF. Shoot, in their march digest, The reference clocked 7600GT is lagging behing a 6800U OC in most games. And in the recent driver heaven review that GW posted, that superclock 7600GT barely edges out a stock X1800GTO.

The stock 7600 GT I just did a review on actually kept up with my X1800 XL really well.

Surprised the hell out of me, I was expecting at least a 10-fps spread at all resolutions. But with AA off, or even at 2x AA, it was sometimes neck and neck at 1024 and sometimes not too far below at 1280 res.

The 7600 GT's only downfall is 4x Antialiassing, where it's 128-bit memory shows it's ugly face. So without 4x AA, I can believe a supewrclocked 7600 GT would MEET a stock X1800 XL, maybe beat it a bit at 1024x768... beat the hell out of it, well, I'd have to see the numbers. That doesn't jive with my experience.

Like I said, after playing with the 7600 GT it's impressed the hell out of me... but even so the X1800 GTO is the better card, it just has so much more going for it.

1024x768 and no-AA, then 2x AA.

Interesting stuff, I'd like to get my hands on one for a while. Why are you doing reviews? Are ya Lucky enough to have free hardware arrive like Crash?

Reply to pauldh

10x7 no fsaa makes sense. I would still imagine that often the X1800XL would allow more eye candy/higher resolution, ... better gaming experience. Just curious, Did you find the X1800XL spanking it once both were Overclocked?

Reply to pauldh

Ah, I didn't try overclocking, sorry.

I'm a contributor for Tom's now, since my Kuformula review. I got a whack of niftystuff to try out... ;)

Heh, I did the Evercool Turbo2 for another site just before that. That would be a nice comparison...

Reply to Crashman

Sweet; good for you!

Reply to pauldh

Yeah, that looks like a nice cooler, too...
