X2 or the 4000+.

I would say the X2 3800+. If you are into media it would be worth while to read up on trade magazines or technology articles about current and upcoming media programs to find out if the programs you will be running are designed to take advange of dual cores.

In any case, dual core is the future because both AMD and Intel are scaling back on single core CPU production and devoting much of their production lines to dual or multi core.

If you were a gamer I would probably be more inclined to say the 4000+.

A better question is "when do you want do it?" Today, X2 3800 or Opty 165. July, Conroe for $310ish will be a stellar buy. The 965 Motherboard probably will be $150ish. The 2 975's out now (ASUS P5W2D-E and Intel BOXD975XBXLKR rev. 304) that support conroe are both about $220.

It's no accident everyone's telling you the same thing. For media definitely dual core and for the occasional game definitely AMD. So either dual core 3800+ or Opteron. Or you can wait for Conroe, see what it has to offer you and decide then

so, basically decide right when i am ready to do it..

If you need one now, just get it. No computer will stop when new one will be available.

Just get one now, then use it. When it start to feel slow, maybe in 2 years, then just get another one..

If you wait for something better, you'll be waiting forever. now, there is X2. then AM2, then Conroe, then who care, then who care again ...

Gotta go Pentium D 950 for that price. Leave AMD alone.

amd 3700 or the 3800x2 cause really how much performance are you going to gain from a 3700 to a 4000. and for a gamer go single core all the way.

As far as intel I am a d805 fan boy only if you Overclock then they could hold there own with the big dogs.

Got anything useful to say?

I already said it. Can´t u read?
Are you going to tell me that the 950 isn´t a good deal for that price?
As IcBlUsCrn said, the 805 is greate if you overclock his as* off.

Yes, I can read. Incidentally, I can spell. Give that a try sometime and you might be surprised how it turns out. :D But my reply was for you saying to "leave AMD alone." Why would he do that when he's also a gamer? I'm sorry to say it, but gamers should always choose AMD over Intel. It's just a fact of life.

Because he said he's a moderate gamer and the 950 won't hold him back. And in video editing he can´t get better for that price. just my thoughts.
