Nero/ incd not working.

Nero and incd is not working.

I used to have it working ok, then had to replace the rewriter drive. (six
months ago)

Installed the new software from the disc supplied with the emprex drive.

The new drive works ok when game cd's are in the drive.

Have used nearly all the "cleantools" from the Nero web site, and
reinstalled Nero and incd

Before we go to far could I ask a question,- after using the cleantool to
remove old installations of INCD for instance, why is it that when I do a
search for files and folders named "INCD" I get a list dating back several
years.

Many thanks Steve

Maybe I've misunderstood your question, but anyway. I once tried to install
Nero and Roxio on the same computer. Nero came with one of my drives and
Roxio was purchased at a earlier date. They refused to work, both had
numerous problems. Uninstalled Roxio and all was smooth and happy. Might be
the same with you.

As jkb hints, it is a recipe for disaster to install more than one CD/DVD
burning application on a system.

What kinds of files and folder names include "INCD"? Your question is
meaningless without that knowledge. When you search on "INCD", you can get
any number of files containing that string without them having anything to
do with Nero software.

Or, they may have been seen as personal folders where personal files are
normally stored--MP3s, WMVs, etc. Those are the kinds of files that
uninstallers are configured not to touch.

Or your system may have been so messed up by some past programming that the
uninstaller(s) couldn't find whatever they were looking for. Or the
uninstaller simply isn't robust enough and able to handle such contingencies
when it should be able to.

In short, though, you provide insufficient data from which to make that kind
of determination.

What software did you install with the "emprex" drive? Is it also Nero software?

A problem that often arises is when a user installs "packet-writing" software from
two different vendors. Nero's packet-writing app is InCD; Roxio has DirectCD; and
there are other brands also. Only one packet writer app should be installed (if you
wish to have a packet writer, which enables you to use a CD-R or RW essentially as a
giant floppy disk).

Usually, there is no problem installing more than one "CD mastering" app....I have
both Nero and Roxio Easy CD Creator installed on a couple of computers with no
problems.....however, if I do install a packet writer, it is only from one of their
packages, not both.
Older versions of CD mastering software used to conflict with each other, but the
newer versions usually have no problem on most systems.

I am not sure from your post what exactly you have installed, and what you mean by
"not working".

Hi Gary, hope your friends are O.K.

Yes, sorry about the lack of info, but I did not what to type "war and
peace", then be asked something else.

We had the liteon drive with "nero and incd",- changed writer to emprex,- we
also have a cd rom,- not sure which is slave or master but they are wired up
the only way that the 'puter will see them.
I do not have ANY other writing or burning software installed nor have ever.
When I installed the new replacement drive I loaded in the new cd which I
guess had the software and drivers.
As said, we had nero and incd on the 'puter, but I cannot remember if I
reloaded either with the new drive.
Needless to say we could not see data from our discs (mostly jpegs from our
digi cam) loaded from the liteon (first) drive, nor could we write to
anything.
I posted on here back in Jan/Feb. and was told about the nero range of
cleantools, so used them and tried reinstalling.
Still would not work, i.e we cannot see anything on any of the discs that we
have saved stuff on, be it piccy's or "backup" documents from "Stephen's
documents or from "Beryl's documents", just two folders on the "c" in
explorer which I added to keep our stuff separate.
Nor can we save to any new discs still.

I will send a screen shot of the "find" list for you to see. I tried to send
it was my first post but it was to big for the newsgroup.

Incd is uninstalled at the present until I find out about all the other
stuff on the "find" list

Many thanks Steve

So, I understand that to mean you removed the Liteon drive and installed the Emprex
drive in its place, on the same connector of the same cable....is that correct?

Well, that may be part of the problem right there. You say "you guess" it installed
software and drivers. If it installed software, you need to determine what it
was....Nero, Easy CD Creator, something else? If "drivers" were installed, it's
possible that you loaded unneeded DOS drivers for the drive to be used in DOS mode
as a CD-ROM drive.

Get the disc you loaded with the Emprex drive, and find out what is on it.

IOW, are you saying that you cannot read *any* discs with the new drive, or just
discs that were previously written with the old drive?

Can you read any other discs with the drive? Does Device manager look OK?
Press WinKey+Pause/Break to open the System control panel. Click the Performance
tab....does it say "configured for optimal performance"?
Click the Device Manager tab, click the + sign to expand the "CDROM" category.
Does the Emprex drive (or a generic listing for the drive) show up there, without
any "splats"?

Reply to your email:

I don't see any remaining remnants of the installation that aren't garbage
or part of the Uninstaller/Cleanup tool. Most are in the TEMP and Temporary
Internet Files folders, and will disappear as soon as you do some standard
maintenance (www.grystmill.com/articles/cleanboot.htm)

After reading the other stuff you've written, I'm at a bit of a loss to
suggest anything else besides that obvious possibility that the new burner
software you report having run includes burning software that you don't even
realize you installed. I'll defer to Glen's answer on that topic as he's
right on track.

Thank you for your reply, of your questions, can I ask if we can deal with
one issue at a time.

>>So, I understand that to mean you removed the Liteon drive and installed
the Emprex
drive in its place, on the same connector of the same cable....is that
correct?<<

NO, that may well not be correct, I'm pretty sure that when we plugged in
the new drive from where the old one was it did not work, so my IT friend
came and had a look, we tried different combinations of cable positions and
slave / master positions until we could see them "listed".

I have just checked them, by placing one of my sons games in each drive in
turn, the game is loaded by both drives and is listed in explorer OK, - the
"E" drive (cd rom) took about 20 seconds to load, The "D" drive (rewriter)
took about 50 seconds.

Can I assume that everything is OK to load and use nero and incd. Is there a
"correct" method of plugging in drives etc, i.e. such a drive should always
be a slave / master to another drive / device, etc. etc Is there some TEST I
can do to check whether the drives are ready to use nero / incd .

>>IOW, are you saying that you cannot read *any* discs with the new drive,
or just
> discs that were previously written with the old drive?

As said above, seeing other pre-recorded discs doesn't seem to be a problem,
I have not checked every disc in each drive but have also just tried an
education cd in each drive, and again the rewriter took much longer to load
to the screen.

>>Can you read any other discs with the drive?

YES, I CAN.

>>does it say "configured for optimal performance"?

Yes it does.

>> expand the "CDROM" category.
> Does the Emprex drive (or a generic listing for the drive) show up there,
without
> any "splats"?

It shows:-
cd rom - DVD RW-IDE 1008
- E-IDE DVD-ROM DVD-ROM DVD-8212

(for info only)
disk drives - GENERIC IDE DISC TYPE 47
- GENERIC NEC FLOPPY DISC

THERE ARE NO "SPLATS"????

We only have a hard drive (as from new), cd rom (as from new), emprex
rewriter, (replacement) , floppy drive (as from new).

I will now deal with the non hardware questions and let you know.

By the way, I have read most of "Can't burn CD-RWs after deleted hard drive
& installed extra CD" on this newsgroup by "moregive" and have taken note of
the main points / issues.

Many thanks, I mean "truly" grateful. Steve.

Gary,

Have emptied, TIF folder (after boot up) with offline content, and cookies ,
emptied R/Bin.

Have not done any other item on your tutorial, as I will have to study and
digest the info first.

Many thanks, Steve.

OK, I was just responding to your "Find" results. Your last reply to Glen is
an eye-opener, and I think Glen is probably more up to the task of sorting
it all out for you.

Nero that came with your LiteOn drive will not work with any other drive.
It is LiteOn specific.
This fact is stated in the documentation that came with your LO drive and
can be found on the installation CD.

It states on the installation CD, " This software only with the CD-recorder
it came bundled with".
I hope this helps.

thank you

How do I remove the old version and load one that will run.

How do I find out what version I have installed at the moment.

Will the Nero clean do the job, Can I download the newer version from the
Nero web site.

Many thanks Steve

P.S my sister in Adelaide has a bigpond.net.au e-mail address.

Alright.....assuming that the technician did not assign drive letters, and the
optical drives are therefore lettered in the BIOS order, the rewriter being D: and
the CD-ROM being E: would indicate that the rewriter is master and the CD-ROM is
slave.....IF they are both on the same cable on the secondary controller.
In your follow-up post, you asked about sending the nero log and a shot on the Info
Tool output. That will be fine, but be sure the Info Tool shot or shots includes
the screen showing the "Configuration" tab. You should send them to this address:
glenventura@gmail.com

Nero should work regardless of how you have the drives connected in relation to each
other, unless the drives are just not compatible with each other for some reason.
In another post in this thread, Infidel already hit on what was to be my next
point....the version of Nero that comes with one drive may not work with any other
drive, since it is a modified, OEM license being used. If you uninstall Nero and
InCD through Add\Remove Programs, and then use the removal tools from Nero's web
site (if they are still available), that is all you should have to do, and then
reboot, prior to installing the software that comes with the Emprex drive. The fact
that you have Nero Info Tool screenshots to show indicates that you have not yet
removed Nero, and I don't know yet what software you got on the disc that came with
the Emprex drive.

But you cannot read *any* discs that you wrote previously with the old
drive....correct? Were those discs written with InCD (packet-writer), or with Nero
(mastering app)? Also, you mentioned that you could not write to any CDs using
Nero, with the new drive (Emprex). Did Nero "see" the drive? IOW, in the Nero
software, when you got to the scrren to choose your recorder, did it show your
Emprex drive as a valid recording device?

OK....you said you have a CD-ROM drive and CD-RW drive. This shows a DVD-ROM and a
DVD-RW. It doesn't make a whole lot of difference for this discussion, but I really
need you to stress accuracy. :-)

By "splats" I mean does anything have a red X or an exclamation mark over it in
Device Manager, indicating there is a problem?

That was quite a long thread, and the issue turned out to be an incompatibility
between the two optical drives on the same machine.

I find UnClean ver 2.0.0.0 very useful for uninstalling software.
It used to be free.
Can be obtained from PC Magazine.
http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,4149,541138,00.asp
You may be able to find someone who downloaded when it was freeware.
Look for InCD and Nero burning ROM entries.
I then clean the remnants with RegCleaner 4.3 by Journi Vuorio (free).
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download460.html

UnClean will tell lots

I don't know whether it will do the job, I would try it as it probably can't
make it much worse if you are careful with RegCleaner. You also may have to
manually clean any leftovers
I think you can only down load the payware version which supports many
CD-RWs.
I hope this helps.
