How should I cool it?

What fan should I buy for the cpu?

Reply to HunkOfLove

definately get an asus a8n-e and a 3800x2+, and get a 7900gt or x1800xt.

Reply to ForzaItalia4

the cpu comes with a stock fan, but if you're planning on overclocking you can get the zalman 9500 on zipzoomfly for about 40 something on sale.

oh, and don't forget to get arctic silver 5

look for the evga 7900gt ko, its more powerful then stock 7900gts, and a custom cooler, at

http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Mer [...] idia-PCI-E

u can get it for 290 i think and u get a free age of empires 3 with that

Reply to ryokinshin

why exactly? refurbished is a person not feeling ok with his item, returns it, factory tests say its ok, its sold again.

Reply to ForzaItalia4

refurbs are tested to work, so it can't be a DOA item. alot of people have been questioning the newer radeons with the 2d specs being lower than advertised, but once they hit a 3d app they shoot up to advertised speeds. people may not like that and return their item. id say you'd have a great chance of getting a quality item for a good discount, and for shader effective games like oblivion, the radeon blows the geforce away.

Not always. Maybe it was DOA and was returned, maybe it was broken, and somehow was returned to be sold again. Sometimes it's even n00bs returning it because they can't find the proper slot for it. You can't always be safe buying refurbished.

i coundn't agree more...lol...i feel that buying refub ones are just too much risk...

anyways, i kinda agree with the set up that prozac recommends...not point getting an sli mobo...save on it... as well as the cpu...3800+ run really great and good for over-clocking too... so save up on these 2 and get a better gfx card...because 7600gt, even tho good, a better lasting gfx card wouldnt hurt...i'd personally go for x1800xt...in fact, im thinking of getting x1800gto or mayb x1800xt(if i have the money)...

x1800xts are around 280 as well and no they dont "blow" nvidia cards away, look at many of the benchmarks in games that tomshardware does, most of the time its around 10fps difference, just buy watever is cheaper, ati or nvidia its dosnt matter

From Newegg:

Quote :

Newegg.com does not test any product, including refurbished items. Refurbished components are therefore only tested by the original manufacturer. Due to the varying quality of manufacturer testing, YOU ARE TAKING A RISK BUYING REFURBISHED PRODUCTS. Refurbished items are OPEN BOX products that contain components that have previously been owned by other clients and returned to Newegg.com. These products are sold considerably under cost.

Precisely the reason I didn't go Refurbished

Quote :

Newegg.com guarantees all Refurbished product for 15 days only.
All Refurbished parts are considered OEM BAREBONE!

It would be a hassle to send back...
Nice system btw 8)

edit: You could spend $10 more for Corsair XMS memory ;) here
As for the video card, choose one they recommended :D

im not trying to argue, but gamestop has new xboxs, used xboxs, and refurbished xboxs. people claim they have a problem with their product, return it under warranty or such, and it is sent to the manufacturer. the manufacturer tests it, and if it works they send it back, or fix the part that's malfunctioning. i bet there's even a law saying that it has to work to resell it.

p.s. i would only buy refurbished if i didn't have enough money to buy retail, but i'd be confident that i'd have a working product.

Reply to ForzaItalia4

he should only buy refurb if the warrenty is the same and he probably needs the cables and adapters that come with the retail one, wich he also probably dosnt want to buy extra

and since hes probably made up his mind, the 2 cards around the same price would be the 7900gt ko or the x1800xt for 290 wich i would suggest the 7900gt ko because it performs better

they ""blow"" nvidia cards away in shader heavy games, period. they can run HDR and AA at the same time, something nvidia cant do at the moment. x1800xt are on par with price with the 7900 gt. the only real advantage to a 7900 gt is they run way better in opengl games and older games. maybe hinting older technology, eh? seriously, both are good cards, it depends on what you're playing. my advice is go for the x1800xt if you want a better card for the price, not to mention you can get a 512 for a few bucks more (sapphire 512 is 309) which will help you to play at higher resolutions.

Reply to ForzaItalia4

well then, if hes not counting in the 512 version, the x1800xt seems to be the way to go, i keep forgetting about the hdr+aa

Reply to ryokinshin

Xbox is a modular system where it's most likely a dead HDD or PSU that's caused the problem. Needless to say a 7900GTX is not modular and therefore needs more than a work experience kid to check it over/fix it.

I was just giving a comparison, i wasn't saying an xbox = a 7900gtx lol. was just saying there's a reason why they have a hand of used xboxs and a hand of refurbished.

i know it;s kinda of out of topic but can u guys recommend me any reliable online store that sells x1800xt 256mb... one that offers competitive price and deliver it to south-east asia, singapore. (btw, for those who dont know where singapore is, it is the country where world cyber games 2006 or 2005 (i can remember, lol) was held). my budget is around 300USD. right here in my country, they only sell the 512 version and it costs 560USD (way out of my budget!)... so it'd reallly be great if u can recommend me...:D
