The plug on the 1940 is a 2.5mm plug, if you want to use regular headphones
you will need an adapter like the one from pocket pc techs

I have an ipaq 6315 and I lost the audio to headphone jack adapter. I
bought two of them at radio shack for about $3.00 each.
