Installing windows XP over windows7 Home

Hello,
Hi bought Hp pavallion notepad pc with windows 7 home edition installed i dont have windows 7 cd but i have windows xp professional and i want to remove windows 7 but during starting of setup with XP Cd it shows blue screen and i am not able to go ahead for even dual OS installation in my laptop. please suggest

i have checked disk and its fine there is no such problem.

Sounds like it could be bad memory or HDD then.
