Well I think its time to to a new pc (old one sucks.....Really BAD). But since I am a gamer, i hear many people talking about making a custom, Kickass pc. Now the problem is i have to find the best possbile possible combo of parts to get the best performance (and the best bang for my buck!!!).

Now the discussion is that what shoud my cpu be? i hear alot of good and bad things about Intel Pentium 9XX series and the AMD Duo 64x2. Now im a complete dumbazz on amd as i roll with intel (a staight 12 years!!). So can ne 1 point me to the best cpu and the matching 939 sok mobo?

Ps. can anyone show an ideal layout 4 an ULTIMATE Gaming pc? Idont intend to follow it part by part but hav a similar build with similar performance...only hav like $2000! (not sure if thats enough)

Thanks 4 all ur help!

For 2grand this is what I would do. This is for overclocking and some sweet gaming. OC'ing is the best way to get the best bang for your buck.

Opteron 175-$504.00
DFI Lanparty UT-$122.00
X1900XT-$450.00
G.Skill Extream PC4000 Ram-$174.99
WD 250GB HDD-$90.00
Aspire Superalien w/500Watt PSU-$139.00
NEC DVD Burner-$39.00
XP PRO-$140.00

Some may say not to go with the PSU included with the case but at least try it. Leaves room for Watercooling too :D

Since this is for Canada I would suggest you check some online shops such as www.ncix.com, www.canadacomputers.com, www.memoryexpress.com and www.bigfootcomputers.com as well.

I agree that the Opteron line of processors is the best bang for the buck and since you will have to OC to get optimum performance out of it DFI is a good choice for MB. You can also get a SLI capable one because you may find a use for the additional PCI-e slot even if you don't use SLI for two video cards. Look at other ram choices as well including OCZ, Corsair and Mushkin. Check out the 7900GT if you want NVidia and don't cheap out on the PSU, Antec makes some nice towers with decent PSUs included.

I find that many ppl have trouble with their first build but in the end are much more satisfied with it than just going to Best Buy (ew).

Have fun and if you have troubles with it come back and ask questions, just make sure your title makes more sense than this one did.

Thanks guys 4 the help. Also, can any one point me to place where i can find good, trusted comparisons between the intel P4 8XX and 9XX dual core series compared to the AMD athlon FX series along with the 4000+ and all of the series cpus on top of that (im looking 4 things like visual aids and charts that show how they they perform overall)

thanks once again

Toms has an interactive CPU chart http://www23.tomshardware.com/cpu.html in which you can pick 2 processors for direct comparison using whatever testing you want (around 30 tests).

Also check out this article http://www.tomshardware.com/2005/11/21/the_mother_of_all_cpu_charts_2005/page24.html I linked you to page 24 as that is where they start the actual performance comparisons.

This chart does not include Opterons but take a serious look at them as you can get up to the same speeds as the X2 4800 if you OC them properly. When I was building my "ultimate" machine I decided to go with the real thing but then I had the cash at the time.

DFI Expert $169
Optron 146 $200 (boxed-3 yrs AMD no-hassle replacement)
G.Skill DDR600 $169
Coolermaster case ($41-$160....the Stacker is top dog)
A real PSU...PC Power and Cooling 510-ASL 38 amps on 12 volt @ 50C rated (more than the CPU!)

On stock volts (1.4-1.5 cpu/2.7 ram) this gives you 3Ghz @ a 1:1 memory ratio.

My 146 runs an every day speed of 2.9Ghz with a Thermailright SI-120 cooler in a 22C room and only hits 38C under full load....I have the slower G.Skill DDR500 ram but they are 2 x 1Gb sticks (2.6 volts).
Use Silverstone FM-121 fans.

I went with a 7900GT and run a "standard" every day OC of 553/1644....these are $299 LIST price!
I don't think my eyes would be able to tell this from a $600 gfx setup.

Just a suggestion, but as Canadians, if you post in these forums again it

might be wise to state if you're talking $2000 CAD. I know the difference

in the looney isn't what it used to be, but it still makes a difference at the

$2k level. And i buy from tigerdirect and NCIX, but with tigerdirect, you

will have to pay PST. You only pay GST from NCIX.com, and everything

doesn't have a mail-in-rebate...they suck.
