Hi

So we are in the memory topic. And about this super project, i'm a bit lost for wich memory..

So i whant to reach the 3.8 ghz OC. So does i need :
a standard DDR2 or a dual channel DDR2 ?

also, a small one ... : i need a PC4200 of the brand : OCZ, Corsair, Crutial or Kingston.

And does one stick of 1 gigs is ok or i need 2 of 512megs ?

So wich one ?... hehe

Many thanks.

What MoBo do you have?

Dual channel memory is better, it has been checked that they run the exact same frequency.

For overclocking get a faster speed memory so you arn't limited by the memory itself.

2x1gig sticks should be better.

To reach that speed a dual channel DDR2 533 is what you need. Let me guess, you have a 3.2Ghz 840 or P4? But a better ram with higher speed would be nice as it gives you more overclocking headroom, and tigther timings is a more better way to have a stable and good overclocking rather than just speed alone.

As for me I have the 4x512Mb DDR2 XMS2 533 rams from Corsair. Overclocked my 840 from 3.2Ghz to 3.8Ghz and up to 4.0Ghz stable at 1.45 volts. The rams is set to 400 but with tighter timings. Of course this is on water cooling, but heat and extra volts in not a good thing for the cpu's life span. As for going 3.8Ghz, I have done it so and it is on HSF cooling (Thermaltake Big Typhoon) stable at 1.4v. A 1x2Gb is better as it enables to run the memory at command rate of 1T as to 4x512Mb of 2T. That adds up about 2-5% performance increase. Other than Corsair, there are several rams out there that is known for good overclocking like OCZ, Mushkins, Ballistix, Kingston and etc. They are however a bit pricey but if you want to overclock with stable and high performance, that of course comes with a price.

Thanks for the info..
Of course, i was not clear in my topic... sorry.
I only have a AMD system and i think to upgrade with the new WOW thing.. the Pentium D 805. Good price and if Conroe will be way better, it will be also way overprice a bit VS this one.

I will got the Asus P5LD2. at 166$ can.

So if i'm right i will be ok to OC the D 805 up to 3.8gh ( with the Zolan 9500 cooling ) with memory :

Corsair Value Select (VS1GB533D2), 1.0 GB PC4200 DDR2 (533 MHz), CL 4.0 - (Lifetime Warranty) - [SW#3772] 113 $
or
OCZ XTC Gold 1024MB PC4200 DDR2 533MHz Gamer Memory for 150$
and said : 3-3-3-12 in latency..
So with this one :
OCZ XTC Gold 1024MB PC5400 DDR2 667MHz Gamer Memory for 133$
It's about the same price and it said that the ram can go up to timing: 5-5-5

So happend that the Asus P5LD2 can handle the 667 Mhz ram, does it be better to go with the last one, OCZ PC5400, that can provided a good power.. ?
And of course, in 2 month, an another 1 gig stick ;)

Many thanks again.
