hi, I have a brand new ip5000, took it out of box, followed the instructions
and turned it on. A loud grating noise followed and does so every time the
printer is turned on, the software also refuses to load. I rang Canon and
the tech listened as the printer was turned on, got me to check the carts
and head was located right and paper trays were not jamming, everything
correct so he told me to return it.

I live in the bush and the firm I bought it from are in Melbourne, they told
me that they wont have new stock for 2 to 3 weeks, I need to do some print
work in 2 to 3 days. Has anyone else had a similar problem and what did you
do to fix it?

tia,
Grant.

That sounds nasty. I can't hazard a guess without seeing it in person.
My iP5000 squeeks when it charges/cleans the printhead. Don't know if
the squeek is intentional, but it is a rather odd sound for a printer.

Obviously it is defective and I would return it. Call the store and
tell them Canon told you to return it. Then ask the store if they would
cross ship you a brand new one. You get the new one and ship back the
old one. Maybe they will let you keep the carts since you are not
supposed to keep them installed when you ship.
