Aspire Superalien with 500Watt PSU-$139.99
Opteron 144-$170.00
G.Skill Extream Ram-$171.99
DFI Lanparty UT-$122.99
eVGA 7900gt-$289.99
WD 250GB HDD-$89.99
NEC 16X DVD±R DVD Burner-$36.99
Panda Internet Security 2006-$15.00
Aspire Keyboard and Mouse-$20.00
XP PRO-$80.00(Special from School)

This is what I have created as the perfect build for under 1200. There are some things I will upgrade later on such as getting a better mouse. I may make it cheaper by going with the 7600gt and later using the step up program to get the 7900gt.

it doesnt look too bad but it'd be better if you went with a dual core and for the vid card if you have some extra money try and get a x1900xt for maybe 240 look on pricegrabber. and for the memory stick to g. skill, mushkin, ocz, or crucial. i prefer crucial. corsair is ok but it woiuld be better to get some memory that actually CAN overclock because ur getting the dfi board

IF you drop the panda and the XP, and sacrifice HDD space you could go for dual (youll need a little bit mor of bux :p)

But an Opty 144 isn't bad @ all, nice rig that one

No, don't drop XP, I meant drop the anti-virus stuff.

Here is software to get:
Rivatuner - nVidia Card Over Clocking
Windows Defender - Anti-Spyware
Avast - Virus Protection
CCleaner - Program Cleanup/General Maintainance
Ares - P2P
Azureus - Torrents

I have used Avast! and IT WORKS AWSOMELY!! Much better than etrust shit, beats Norton and anything else out there. And, its free

I would also reccomend Spybot antispyware.

If you are looking for some free software, check out tucows.com. It's great for finding ANY software. antispyware, antivirus, firewall, etc.

Check it out.

AVG virus scan. It's free and I've used it for years now. Not 100% virus blocking but what is? Also get Ad-aware SE to take care of spyware.
Is all software free or is it just me? I'm just kidding, We need to keep the nerds employed.
I would get a x1800xt and some after market cooling for the cpu. If you like NV stick with it and the stock cooling is good on the optys, just what i'd do.
