I have a older PC that has 2 slots for memory. The max that I can install is 1Gig. Should I install 2 512MB sticks or 1Gig stick? Will I get i difference in perfomance of 2 over 1?
EDIT: Just some added info I am talking about PC2700

That depends on what mobo and CPU (mostly mobo but CPU helps too). Some mobos are dual channel so 2x512 would be better, others are single channel so 1x1g would be better. Since you didn't mention anything about your system, no one will be able to help you.

Given the age of the machine it's probably safer to go for 2x512MB ... I'm not even sure 1Gig chips existed back then, and if they did they might not work ... why would the limit be 1gig if it had 2 slots and could use 1 gig sticks ...?

It comes with a 256mb stick so you could add one more and have 512K. I think some of the 845 chipsets were capable of dual-channel but I'm not sure about the GL series. Your running PC2100DDR anyway so I doubt if you would notice the difference. Get the two 512's just in case plus they will probably be cheaper than a 1gb stick.
