2 possible HDs for new build.....

I am going to build a gaming rig with:
Amd 4200
gigabyte pro-sli
7600GT
antec 550 truepower 2

And i want to know if I should purchase both harddrives, or just one.

Seagate is a personal favorite of mine, so I'd tell you to buy anything Seagate . I've bought maybe 7 or 8 Seagate HDD's and I haven't had any fail. I've bought 4 WD HDD's and had one fail. Oh well.

Seagate doesn't always have the highest data throughput rates, but they make a reliable drive IMHO.

Another thing: This is my first build. So I know next to nothing about harddrives. I KNOW that I won't be filling up both drives, and I would like to find an ATA 100 for my dell for more storage and backups. I already have a 60gb in my dell and I was looking at a seagate 120 and 160 gb drives for that. (it has an intel 845PE mobo) Would you reccomend seagate for the older ide drives? Or wd?(that's what I have now in my dell)

If you're not going to fill up both drives, then why get both? Save the money or put it towards another part of your rig (7900GT maybe). I would recommend both Seagate and WD for older IDE drives, I've had good experiences with both companies (but I'd get Seagate just because I like them).

But seriously, don't get the 320GB WD drive, put that extra $120 into a 7900GT and you'll see much better performance over the 7600GT.

I've got 4 of the 320's they're good and relatively fast. For REAL fast that's not as expensive as raptops, go with the Samsung Spinpoint 2504c for sata and 2514 for ide, these things are quick!

We've had excellent reliability from Samsung drives over the years as well. So, that recommendation from Michaelahess gets my vote.

Don't go with the 200gb, 200gb is a useless compared to 250gb (sounds dumb but I guarantee you'll need the extra 50gb).

Consider Maxtor also, I've never had Maxtor drives fail, compared to multiple WD and Seagate. Not saying WD and Seagate are all bad, but I personally prefer Maxtor.

For games.....

get 7900GT.... and then get a 74Gb Raptor. Install windows and games onto the raptor! If you need more HD space get an external HD with eSATA for MP3s etc.

New to the Sata drive scene. Got two new, 100GB Maxtor drives in the retail box for only $40 each. Not bad 'eh?
