So i was bored.. and decided to volt mod my x850 xt using the VID mod from the TechPowerUp! page.
First, the disclaimer:
If you want to volt mod your x850, only do so at your own risk!
Make sure you have a backup video card, and are willing to lose it.
Ok lets go,
I used the VID mod to adjust my vcore from 1.4 to 1.5.
(Use the table from the link at the bottom to determine which resistors you need to adjust)
I went to 1.500 V so:
First, i used a pair of surgical pliers to crack the R1855 and R1856 resistors .
( I didnt really think about it and cracked resistor R1858... )
Then i used 2 old 1K resistors and soldered them into the right spots to give me a core voltage of 1.5 volts. If done correctly, (ie not cracking R1858) you'll only need 1 1k resistor.
Here's the first one:
Both resistors soldered into place:
Close up of the soldering:
And done!!
With the stock cooler i bumped up the core to 613, and it hovered around 70 degrees. I'll be ordering an Arctic Silencer 5 soon to mod it further.
