Hi,

Sapphire X1800XT 256MB which I've recently bought seem to be immune for overclocking.
Every attempt to overclock ending up with the same result (3dmark05 stays around 7600, F.E.A.R. 49 fps firm). 690/800 gives the same benchmark result than 625/750. I've tryed different drivers versions, ATI Tray tools, ATITool. FLASH OSD monitoring show the clock change to overclock values during full window 3d mode.
Can anybody explain what is going on?

Does the X1800XT card run 2d and 3d clocks like the X1900XT? if so then you want to make sure you disable the 2 services that cause the switching back and forth from 2d mode to 3d mode.

Sorry, I don't understand. What services and how to disable it?

ATITool is disabling ati2evxx.exe which is responsible for overclocking through CCC. Is that what you ment?

Yeah thats it. I actually had to manually disable mine, apparently ATI TOOL does it for you now.

I think that 34 points is not even slight difference. It's the same.
So....which benchmark or game should show the difference. I tryed F.E.A.R and HL2.

Point on benchies just estimate performance on your rig, but whaen it comes to playing games, you will notice a difference, trust me.

as fas as I know with some games you can benefi with 512MB on board. Like Quake 4 with Ultra settings. I heard that Oblivion works better with 512.

I recently bought the Connect 3d X1800XT 256MB, and had the same problem with ATI Tool.

Try ATI Overdrive in the CCC, it worked for me - 3dmark 8210@stock, 8594@690x1600.

I use ATI Tool for temperature monitoring only.
