Will a SLI board work with an ATI card?

I am going to buy a new setup and I have a free ATI Radeon X 1600XT. Eventually I think that I may want to go with a Nvidia card later on so would a DFI LANPARTY nF4 SLI-DR nForce4 SLI or an Asus A8N32-SLI Deluxe nForce4 SLI work. Or should I go with a crossfire board like the Asus A8R32-MVP Deluxe Radeon Xpress 3200 CrossFire or a DFI LANPARTY UT CFX3200-DR ATI CrossFire CFX3200.

I am going to go with an opertron 165 or 170 cpu. Any recomendations on what memory to go with?

I have both the A8R-MVP and the A8R32-MVP. They work as advertised, and the latter is a much better overclocker plus much more stable... arguably the best overclocking board available for socket 939 to date.
I can run stable with 4 sticks of Corsair XMS expert/pro 11x 240MHz at 24/7 operation with my Opty 175 using 1.475volts.
Any other questions?

An ATi gfx card will work in an nVidia chipset board (& vice versa) fine.
What you can't currently do (with official drivers) is run 2xATi in Crossfire on nVidia or 2x nVidia in SLi on ATi.

That's basically what I was going to say
