Hello

I play around with socket 7 sys and this one doesn't want to restart when windows says to click to restart to register hardware changes for instance. The monitor light just goes from green to red and the cd-rom turns a few times and then all the sys just hangs with a dark screen.

If i turn the power switch off/on it reboots and all is ok, but it's not the right way to do it.

Any ideas off hand? Power management in bios? What settings? Something else in bios or might it be a hardware setting , jumpers perhaps?

Asus TX P4 rev 2.00

no wiring from switch assembly set into MB

Try a bios reset. Maybe DL & flash the bios with an upgrade (if available). I remember some socket 7s with that problem but I don't recall the resolution - I'm one who says 'if the front door's locked, use the back, so I used the reset button whenever that happened.

I've had that problem before with Win98. Empty all temp files and internet cache files. MS also has a tech note on this problem. Indicated one file may be damaged. But don't recall which one.

the reset doesn't do it either, so i may just tell the next owners to do a power off/on when needing to restart. Haven't found the solution at ms knowledge base. thanks guys anyway
