I'm planning to build a new computer with the following specs :-
->AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+
->DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D Motherboard
(I've heard a lot about this being good for OC)
->Crucial 1GB(2x512MB) DDR PC 3200RAM
->Segate 250GB Barracuda HDD 7200rpm
->Samsung DVD writer 16x
->Antec Sonata 2 with 450w PSU
->SyncMaster 798MB PLUS 17"
(Any comments on this choice?? i've heard viewsonic is better)
->Creative Inspire 5.1 speakers

Now the thing is i'm probably gonna get a high end graphics card and sound card. So if i'm really lucky and get a 7900GTX and XFi sound card ..... will the PSU that comes with the Sonata be good enough?? I'll probably overclock that Athlon too(i'm planning to upgrade to the Conroe whenever i can afford it) I'm going to use this in my hostel with a LAN and so i need to allow for a network interface card too. When i tried to calculate the power use with an online power calculater(extreme outervision) i got it as 603w 8O . That don't seem right to me. I doubt an SLI would need that much. Help me out please.

i wouldnt trust the smart power if ur gonna OC.

also sonatas come with 450w versions where DFI recommends u put a minumun of 480w on their mobo's there are problems with PSU under 480w . compatibility issues.

so no. smart power isnt gonna cut it, atleast the 450w version.

i think that should work the x2's dont even use that much power anyway. and your only usin 1 hard drive. if u do get a 7900GTX maybe youll need more but ive read people having SLI setup with the PSU in the sonata II

So that sonata w/ 450w should be fine. gotta love that new print function :mrgreen:

A suggestion would be Antec TruePower II 480 watt or the 550 watt model.

The SmartPower is a lower grade quality PSU than the TruePower II series.
