Stock cooling and stock voltage. Is there any way I can look for more performance, without using liquid cooling? I've managed to clock it to 4.08, but can't boot into Windows at that point.

Also, I've seen it said that changing the voltage will help...but that it also might kill the chip? How does that work?

Also, at 100% utilization it throttles a bit...not sure what that means either.

If anyone can help me out please do.

The Only way you're gonna get more out of it, is if you buy a good

aftermarket HS/F. Yes, increasing the voltage can help increase stability,

and/or overclock, but it will produce more heat. If your throttling now, that

means that your processor is hitting a preset temperature limit. A better

HS/F should lower temps, which may even give more overclock without

voltage increase, but more likely allow voltage increase, for more O/C. You

should be able to safely increase the voltage a bit to, say, 1.45v, with

decent cooling.

Is it really worth it to upgrade HS/F though? With that fan, how large of a jump past 3.8 do you think I'll be able to pull?

Expect 4.3 with a really nice HSF. Do you want me to post some good aftermarket coolers?

That'd be great. A few people have already tossed in some ideas, but the more, the merrier.

Also, for the 4.3, will I have to crank the voltage? My real question is this: from what I've read, higher voltage equals shorter processor life. If I do have to raise the voltage, what should I expect to happen to the chip?

It'd have to be the XP-90C. After looking them up, it seems the 120 is socket 478/754/939/940...my 640 is 775. But the XP-90C covers that, unless I'm mistaken.

You can get an XP-120 RM for LGA775, and for SI-120. They are $5.00

according to Thermalright website.
