Honestly, when I first saw the article, I didn't even blink an eye. I respect your opinion, but I am one of those people that feel nudity isn’t that big of a deal. It's an entertainment piece, covering a topic of recent interest. Very short, very attention grabbing...but so what? There are injustices in the world far worse than video game nudity. just my opinion on the matter.

its not that im ready to go to war over it or anything. its just a real cop out, selling sex is so much easyer than quality journalism. its like a tv show that is failing and then brings on some drop dead hot blond in a pitiful attempt to regain some ratings.
go tell your alien brothers, that ronnie cordova says they're gay!!! sock baby
do you think that's what is was - that's how it went down?
I'm only speculating here...I am wondering if it was more that the writer wanted to write about it, then they said ok, and there you go? in other words, it wasn't a calculated effort to use sex to gain readership? (and I use the term sex lightly, given that pixels aren't very sexy to me personally) who knows...but I'm out.
do you think they took such a touchy subject like this, knowing full well it would create a lot of backlash from the offended public, and didnt think there was going to be a shock value attraction to the article? and twice as much traffic to the site just for the article? just the picture of the topless alex is enough to get most people to click. somthing like this, uncensored would never be on the nightly news. they didnt treat this as just another topic to be covered, they knew exactly what they were doing making this article.

I think you're just over analyzing it. It has been a hot topic lately and this just happened to be their take on it. It's a decent article about the history of nude mods for games. Anyone who doesn't want to see it doesn't have to look(or download the mod). And if they did do what you're saying, it's no big deal anyway. Neither is the original issue for that matter. It's just the female form, and a poor representation for that matter. What bothers me is the fact that so many people are still that uptight about anything involving the naked human form. (or in this case the naked polygon) There are so many truly obscene acts happening around the world every minute of every day. We really need to get over this issue of human sexuality. It's natural and beautiful and we shouldn't be demonizing it.
Just my opinion.
That Jesus Christ guy is getting some terrible lag... it took him 3 days to respawn!
The thing that nags me about this piece is not the nudity, but the gratuitousness of it. This piece serves no real purpose beyond perhaps inflaming someone like Jack Thompson and giving anti-videogaming types more ammo - and most of the nudity featured is from 3rd party modders.
Now I've been screaming in Saturday Gamer about the accountability of videogame developers for third party mods, and IMO they shouldn't be held accountable for that sort of stuff. This piece simply grabs a load of titty mods, takes screenshots, gives a small paragraph on it and then err... does nothing beyond that. Personally I think it's a piece with no purpose that wasn't even all that entertaining, but then I suppose people like me in glass houses really shouldn't throw stones...
I agree with you on it.. While done tastefully, I don't think they took into account their younger audience and they could have at least blurred out areas in paintshop.. maybe posted a link to the undoctored pictures to show it.
I was sitting at work when I opened up that link to read it and I had to close it down because I didn't think I'd see what I did... not that I don't lack privacy in my office, but the fact is I didn't expect that to be there.
While it is the topic of interest lately.. I only read a portion of the article at home before I lost interest.. because I personally don't like fighting aliens naked. hah.
A disclaimer or a link to the pictures would have been sufficient enough for me..
While European counterparts might not mind and others.. It did bother me that it was on Toms.. that was pushing the line. Just a disclaimer.. but really a link to the pictures would have been enough for me.
its not really even their take on it, just one tiny blurb so they have an excuse to put animated porn on the front page. whether or not you agree with it isnt even the issue, the issue is now i cant look at the front page at work until that article is off it. it doesnt matter what kind of context the article was written in. if my female boss saw that little pic on my monitor im sure i would be fired, or at least lose my internet privledges.
go tell your alien brothers, that ronnie cordova says they're gay!!! sock baby
I just read the article.. I've slightly changed my point of view.
While the article brings to light all the current and well known games that have this hack..
The final conclusion covers it all.. basically, this article could have been cut down to 1 page had they not decided to stick in so many pictures, far more than normal articles.
Stating not to tell the mainstream news and such of current and long ago nudity in games because GTA SA takes it all.. well.. he has a point there.
But I don't find the information prior to that really worthwhile to the article as a whole. It has shock value with the pictures..
But then, a lot of people who read this article might take those games away from their kids who play them legitimately.. mainly because they don't know if their son (or, oddly, daughter) has the nude patches..
I guess so what if some kid sees nude pixel parts? It's a normal thing to want to see nudie pictures...what's the worse thing that can happen? gasp! not, bad thoughts? or worse yet...(I won't even say it)
The thing I agree with is the issue of potentially having this article on your screen at work. It really might offend people, and I respect that.
PS: I somehow managed to buy a copy of leisure suit larry when I was 11...hahah...but then again that may explain a lot. great game though...
Yeah I remember having leisure suit larry when I was little.. you could freely download the thing.
I agree with you on the kids seeing it. My dad had a mountain of playboys in the basement.. literally a mountain of them. My brothers, our friends, would all sneak down and look through them.. before I was even 10.
But to put it in a game... its like cartoons are geared towards kids (originally adults with Felix the Cat) but today's mentality is "games are for kids/cartoons are for kids." Which creates tension for parents who don't want their kids seeing that stuff.
Those who want to see it can go ahead and see it.. I just thought they could have provided links.. or even skipped out on the pictures completely.
Ok from what I saw the pic on the main page showed nothing, even when I blew it up it showed nothing. Some of you people need to relax (mainly Americans). They are naked polygons with differently shaded areas WHO CARES. As for the person saying that these games are aimed at kids, well what do you think the ratings on these games are for?
In my opinion THG was doing nothing but showing that GTA: San Andreas wasnt the first with nudity. While GTA did have the nude code on the disc where others had 3rd person mods, the games mentioned other than "The Sims 2" are rated teen+, and when you were a teen I bet the Internet was a one stop shop for porn.
So to review Naked people are OK, Naked Pixels are NOT. Good thinking.

yes the one with an asus mobo and non exsistant apg slot. It was free so dont yell at me LOL.
What's wrong with posting naked pictures on walls in preschool? It's only colored paper.
The front page image didn't bother me, but with all the graphics within the article.. I read this site while I'm at work and I don't need that kind of stuff there. I link out to the pictures would have been enough for me.. I knew what I was getting into though when I opened it.
I don't know how well the openness of nudity works in europe or anything, I haven't really been there so I can't comment on it.
But I don't mind the rules.. after all, most of the people who want to be completely nude are the ones you don't want to see nude.
Isn't there a weebit of difference between photographed naked bodies and some suggestive surface renderings (but obviously not the real thing)?
I mean, if I undress a barbi doll and post a picture of that, will people in the US take offense to that?

I know what you're saying, but the graphics are a little more suggestive than a naked barbie that has no specific details.
But they're not worried about adults looking at it.. they're worried about little kids looking at it.. which can cause some sexual problems or fantasies..
Would you want your 10 year old playing a Tomb Raider with lara croft in nothing gun a gun belt?
Do you not think he's going to start thinking of women as an object and not respect their privacy?
That's the main issue.. in the US, that's intimacy between people. I don't know how it works in Europe or other countries, but here we respect people's privacy and have moral issues with young kids playing games with nude characters.
Now, if it were educational, that's different, because it's not in a sexual way. These games are in a sexual way.. that's all.
I know what you're saying, but these games are geared toward sexual tendancies and fantasies.. which is where the moral conflict in the US comes into play.
Are you talking about the article now or the issue of kids getting content you wouldn't like them to have? The thread started on the article. I still say it was a well done article and the "nudity" in it, if that's what we must call it, was just relavent to the article. Some shock value? Sure, but not terrible considering the theme of the piece.
On the general issue, I think the fact of the matter is that any kid out there who can go out and find the mods to run Naked Tomb Raider has probably already found other porn. And in the end, it's still the parent's job to regulate what their kids are viewing, not anyone else.
And even if they are seeing this stuff, I still don't see the big problem. I don't understand why we still have this huge stigma on nudity and sexuality. So what, it's not such a big deal that you roam the streets of San Andreas stealing cars, killing pedestrians and police officers and whoever else might cross your path, and the thing that creates the biggest uproar is the hot coffe mod?
I just don't see the justification. It's just the human form. And again it's the parents' job to mold healthy attitudes towards women in their sons, not Rockstar games or THG for that matter.
just MHO as always
I doubt, therefore I might be.
As for getting fired at work? It wasn't a large, high def image. Most people wouldn't catch it just passing by, at least not without taking that double-take. And I would hope if they did that any semi intelligent adult could tell the difference between a hardware site w/ a slightly off color article and an actual porn site. The issue then would seem to be just that you're not online doing work related things.
But, maybe I'm giving too much credit to the intelligence of the general population.
ps. it was a 12 page article, not just a quick blurb.
